thats a key business plan of theirs in city centres near boozing joints i feel because they apparently rake in loads from the drunks selling extra fillings per sandwich. i was speaking to a few students a while ago and they worked these night shifts and they ask drunks if they want extra fillings and they do ofetn take extra fillings, only the veggie are free as much as you choose, but the meaty fillings are extra. apparently they sell loads of extra fillings to the drunks and my jaw dropped when i heard that they have frequently sold sandwiches with extra fillings for 25£ each !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! boy the chaps who bought those would have had a massive sandwich hangover the next day. wonder how big the sandwich was. the students who did the night shifts were happy as well as they were having good takings and the managers were very happy with them.Subways in my town has the great business plan to stay open till 3am on 3 nights per week & 1am for the rest of the week. This is to cater to the vomiting, pi$$ing in alleys & fighting all comers heros who lap up vodka shots and cocaine in the local nightclub. Extra litter, violence and vomit for all Yum Yum Yum
can never understand how someone can be drunk enough to buy 25£ worth of fillings for a single sandwich at subway. but i guess i would rather they spend their money at subway than on more booze and trouble others later. i had stopped at one such subway in leeds at night and there were crowds there like in rush hour at midnight.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -

I think someone is pulling your knob, it's impossible to get £25 of fillings into a 12" sub.0 -
no they werent pulling my leg. i just happened to be present with quite a few students at a party. most of the students were working at subways and they were just chatting about work and cribbing about the drunks they get. this was mentioned by chance and the others who didnt do the night shifts agreed the takings of the ones who did the night shifts towards the weekends were good. apparently they try telling the drunks they cant fill that much in the sandwich but they get shouted at by them, so they say to hell with it and put what ever they want in it and bill them and they pay it. there were 4 -5 students who worked at subways various branches and they confirmed this sort of thing happened. dont ask me how big the sandwich was though, i wouldnt know, i did ask about this and was told sometimes they had to fill the filings into a separate carrier bag when they couldnt put it in the sandwich for the drunks because of the amount of fillings they wanted. the students said it is much less hassle giving the drunks what they want or they get aggresive and sometimes needed the police to be called. one of them was a tiny girl who said she didnt want trouble and just put as many fillings as the drunks wanted and billed them accordingly and that they paid and only created a fuss if you didnt make the sandwich like they wanted. sometimes some of them apparently fight if she didnt put more chilli sauce in the sandwich for their own good but they would fight and make her put loads in and she did it and they would pay happily and take it. freaks she said about some of the customers they get when they come drunk, she was just working there to help fund her education and i dont think she was lying to me.I think someone is pulling your knob, it's impossible to get £25 of fillings into a 12" sub.
try it yourself on a weekend at leeds city centre, go to a late night subway AND SEE FOR YOURSELF THE PEOPLE LINING UP THERE FOR A SANDWICH. dont remember which branch it was but it was in city centre near the boozing joints. some of the students were from sheffield and said it was the same.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -

I don't think anyone's under the illusion that they're getting a local, organically produced, 100% meat "steak and cheese" sub for their £3, are they?
I think most people know that they get what they pay for and just try not to think too much about where it actually comes from...
Without wanting to sound like a moany, old bag, that's most of the problem.
If they did put a bit of thought into it, they may work out why they are carrying an extra stone but without necessarily overeating.
My DD is going through that teen phase where you want the opposite to your parents so will spend pocket money on junk food (like Subways), then wonders why she gets a bad belly....she has no tolerance.
Subway are a franchise BUT there may be loads owned by one franchisee company...maybe.
Brighton Council closed the tourist office (in the heart of a tourist area) and then let it to a Subway.......changed the planning to A3?
It is open until 4am and I know it sells stuff as the after effects are often spewed over the pavement and in my shop doorway.
It is satisfyingly deserted most of the daytime.
All Subway food is massively over processed junk popped into pappy 'bread' and filled with bleach rinsed salad (for a longer, crisper life) and covered with
salty, sugary, gloopy MSG sauce.
Yum.
I knew my retail venture was coming to an end once the Subway came last year......in our trade it is known as the 'Angel of Death' for an area....for some reason, the area surrounding it gets tainted.
I don't know why?....perhaps it's that processed smell that leaks from it and spreads around.0 -

Richard McCarrison did some experiments with mice over a hundred years ago.
It's too late to find it on google but I read it in 'Eat your Heart Out' by Felicity Lawrence.
From memory, he took 3 groups of mice.
1; fed a diet of a mountain tribe (little meat, fresh veg, loads of apricots that thet grew, seeds etc)
2; fed a diet based on poor S Indians. White rice, no fruit and veg, low grade foods.
3; fed a UK working class diet (at that time) of tea, sugar, white bread, jam, very little fruit and veg.
Group1; flourished and got no diseases.
Group 2; got diseases and cancers.
Group 3; got diseases and cancers....then started to attack and eat each other.
He concluded that the sugar was the difference in group 2 + 3 and can cause erratic, violent and irrational behaviour plus depression and illnes....plus the diseases that a degraded diet give you.
Hidden sugar is in everything (if it's not labelled as sugar, it will be fructose, glucose and some other 'oses' that I can't recall from memory...there is an 'ose' derived from corn startch that is in everything and keeps the USA economy ticking over).
Apart from in coffee, I never eat sugar and you can really taste it in savoury foods when we eat at friends (say, a sauce sachet used in cooking) or out (rare) plus it's definately on Macdonalds chips.0 -

A very interesting point there. The UK has a bad diet there is no question about that and there are some angry, grumpy, depressed people around. What you mention there is pretty much out there.0 -

My friend bought a 6ft subway once. I kid you not! Admittedly he had to buy 6 x 1ft subs, but then he took them back to work and we took a photo of him lying down (he's 6ft tall) next to them all!
He ate three of them. I don't know what happened to the rest
