Its my understandig that all subway fillings are made in China and shipped over. Including the little portions of cooked "steak" in the gravy in the trays.

I was beginning to have some doubts about your story but..
I was told this by one of the staff who worked at a subway just outside cancun.

I guess that confirms it's true then!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

As for Maccy's, Ewwwww! I don't think I'd ever be hungry enough to eat a nice fat Bovine Sphinter Burger with plastic cheese.

Worst thing that Maccys ever did was stop selling the Big Tasty.

Good point - in the UK even if you lose your job you know you will always have enough to eat, have a roof over your head, clothes on your back and free healthcare thanks to the welfare state and NHS.

In the USA on the other hand, you are practically screwed. A few food stamps and some very, very basic discretionary medical care and that's it. No job=reliance on charity.

In the UK however just lie around in your house all day, smoking and drinking and popping out kids who know they will never have to do a day's work in their lives either (OK, taking an extreme case of the unwilling to work) and letting the state take the strain.

Just one more reason why the UK is going to be the worst hit of all the major economies.

The US pays unemployment compensation - it is based on your earnings, you have to have worked to get it and it varies from state to state - in New Jersey the max amount you can get is around $550 a week, Florida is about half of that. It's meant to be for about 6 months, except in times of high unemployment - like now - some states are paying it for 42 weeks at the moment. And who knows when the next extension will be.

After that you get "welfare" - this is the one where you get food stamps amongst other things, like TANF temporary assistance for needy families. which is money - but you also get other help - depending on family size - free school breakfasts and lunches for children etc, help with utilities.

Generally people don't starve to death in the US. They may get more in the way of benefits than you think.

Indeed, in the UK you get a job with a council and spend all day on MSE (complaining about those unwilling to work), drinking coffee and never have to do a days work in your life and let the tax payer take the strain.....you couldn't make it up could you?

I don't think subway try to sell themselves as any kind of "good food", do they? I've never seen anything to suggest they're trying to be any "better" than anyone else - I've not heard anything about free range, fair trade, GM-Free, organic stuff etc...That being the case, I guess the question is really whether they're any worse than anything else on the high street, which I've not really heard anything about tbh...

I don't think anyone's under the illusion that they're getting a local, organically produced, 100% meat "steak and cheese" sub for their £3, are they? I think most people know that they get what they pay for and just try not to think too much about where it actually comes from...

No but its the use of the word fresh, that I personally struggle with :)

It's hard to feel any sympathy for a company which used clustering in its attempt to achieve global dominance.

Looks like SubWay will head the same way....soon...and how will they employ 7,000 in 600 new outlets? Most of them are small franchises employing 3 to 5 people max. per store http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7858472.stm
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.

This Subway thing. It's a sandwich shop right? Will the British only buy stuff that has a brand name attached to it. So the local sandwich shop is no more because "we must go and get a Subway" as if it's any better, tastier, cheaper and healthier than a normal sandwich.

    Are we all stupid?

Subway is fresh, made in front of you, not yesterdays krap like in some of those "old" sandwich shops.
