I had to plug the ethernet cable in to set mine up, took all of about five minutes!

I'm not sure I understand your answer.
Un plug the router from the internet. Just had your pc plugged up to the router.
You should be able to access the routers config by a typical ip such as 192.168.0.1 (it should say the exact address in the manual). Upon going to this address you'll be prompted for a username and password. These are your router credentials, and they'll be set to something like "admin" <blank>, or "admin", "admin".
Think of it like this:
pc > router > internet.
First thing is to get the pc > router part done, then you can work on getting the router > internet going.
Also, with your pc hooked up to the router do the following:
Start (ie the Windows Start button) > Run > type "cmd", press Enter. A command prompt will appear. Type "ipconfig /all" and press enter. Paste the results here."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Take Linksys on the telephone as these things are much easier with some body taking you every step on the phone. Here is there free fone number 0800 0261418.0

thanks for that mm66. spent 38 mins on the phone to them(thank god it was free)
got the PC up and running,. just got to try and connect to laptop to itkeeps saying no wireless networks were found in range
