do you want to connect the laptop by cable or wireless ??

sorry to be a pain asking all these questions...you already have wireless on the laptop ??

You can ask as many questions you want.

I want the laptop to be wireless and dont care if the PC is wired or not.

When I bought the laptop it said it was wireless ready, it is currently connected to the internet by usb modem from ISP

I would use the PC to connect and set up the router then as the cable works on there, then once the thing is set up set up the laptop wireless connection

there should be a wireless icon on the bottom right of your screen on the laptop, double click on it when the router is set up to see all available networks, if it asks for a Wep key this is normally on a pink label on the bottom of the router.

if there is no wireless icon on the bottom right of the screen then go to "Control Panel" and look at "Printers and other Hardware" the wireless link icon is there , or go to "Network and Internet connections" and the wireless set-up wizard is there

Well I have tried setting it up on the PC and I am getting to the end where its trying to connect and keeps saying

"the router is not able to connect to the internet. Try turning the cable/DSL modem off and back on again"

the instructions are abismal, it tells you to do one thing in the leaflet and another on the CDrom

Ok, let's step back a second.

Firstly, leave the laptop for now, focus on the pc.

Can the pc connect to the router and are you able to login?

If you are able to connect and login to your router, what details are you entering for your ISP?

What kind of laptop do you have?

Can the pc connect to the router and are you able to login? no, it will configure the router to the settings and then tries to connect

If you are able to connect and login to your router, what details are you entering for your ISP? it isn't asking me for ISP info other than username and password

What kind of laptop do you have? god knows, its one of those where its the same lappy just a different badge on it, its the same as the top spec advent one in PC world

  • I also bought this router and have had no problems at all, have you phones linksys? They were extremely helpfull when i phoned them. You call an 0870 number and then they tell you the number has changed to a freephone number. You actually call America!

I had to plug the ethernet cable in to set mine up, took all of about five minutes!

    Hope this helps
