Thanks I tried again with a smalled amount of oat and left it in the oven a bit longer and kept the flap jacks in the tray. Managed to get some chunks but handle them and they fall apart! Ah well will try again at the weekend. I am enjoying mixing the crumbs with ice cream - delish!0

Hi
Hotter over methinks - what temp are you using?0 -
I find that leaving them to go completely cold in the tin before removing them makes all the difference0

I used to have this problem too. Now I just use Twink's hobnob recipe instead. Taste fantastic and they have never stuck at all.
Look it up on the recipe index ( or hopefully someone much cleverer than me will post you a link soon!)0 -

Well I tried to make some flapjacks today ... picked off one of the recipes in the flapjack thread...
Well its 'nearly' a disaster....
The ingredients are oats, honey, marg and sultanas.....
But it has crumbled all up ... so Im going to use it as Cereal ...
My question is this ... how long will it keep ?
Thanks in advance... (going to stick to bread)

Hi, I always had the same trouble with flapjacks, but now make them the way they do at work (school kitchen), which is to cream the marge, sugar & syrup/honey, then add oats, raisins etc. Comes out more "cakey" than the melting method & doesn't crumble half as much -still tastes just as good too!0

I think your recipe has missed out the golden syrup, which is probably the thing that makes them stick together! Try this:
Flapjacks
8oz oats
4oz marg
1oz sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
Melt, add oats, cook in oven at 180 C for 15 mins. (Put in flat pan to cook.)
Really old recipe, lovely flapjacks!0 -
Dont be tempted to take the flapjacks out too early. They`re easy to make and just as easy to spoil. Score them with a knife when they come out ( after 5 mins)and then leave say overnight. Will be much easier.0

Thanks for all your replies.... I left them on the side.. went to bed as wasnt well and come down this morning to find they are gone ... DH has given them to the dog ... cry cry ...
I read on the flapjack thread that you can substitute honey for golden syrup.. is this not the case0
