The Government scheme has distinct disadvantages for the user, in comparison with the Manufacturers schemes...like, compare identical Ford scheme with Govt Motability.Deposits, payment, period of contract, End of contract ownership etc..
Consult your local sales-service dealer...and make notes.
Hi all, first post people.
Mark,
Thats interesting as I was not aware anything existed outside of the Gov Motability scheme. Based on this I went to our local Ford dealership and asked the question to a series of blank looks. Are you able to be more specific on what the manufacturers offer as an alternate to Motability, and, which manufacturers offer the alternative.
Appreciate an early reply.
Thanks.0 -

And yes, I'm simply highlighting the unfairness of the grant system. It's absolutely absurd that an entire family must have a very expensive car just for transporting one disabled child - there is absolutely no reason why the child cannot be transported in one car and the rest of the family in another car, paid for by the family.
People don't seem to understand that the parents have a vested interest in these things.
I know quite a bit about the Motability scheme, and I am happy to say that pretty much everything that PBS is wrong!!
The scheme is not for the disabled person alone, but for the benefit of the disabled person. How would a disabled child benefit if they had to travel in one car and the rest of the family in another? Does PBS have any idea how much some adaptations to cars cost?
Most parents VESTED interest in their disabled child is to look after them, care for them and to keep them protected from closed minded people like PBS who are the first to critisize the system until someone in *their* family needs it, at which point the system isnt good enough. Lets hope PBS never has need of the Motability system - after all, it would be very hypocritical of them, woudn't it!
The Grant system exists for people to be able to give full access to the car for the people involved. It does not judge people, or parents. It provides for the needs of the disabled person. Full Stop. The Grant is for the cheapest car and adaptation that meets the needs of the disabled person, subject to a means test.0 -
PBS your posts are not welcome on this board. You are again trying to stir up trouble rather than actually helping people you have already been temporarily banned once, do I have to spell it out for you
Please go away and end this pretence.0 -
*sigh* thread reported again for closure and a tidy up of off topic posts.
If anyone wants to discuss the ins and outs of Mobility cars then please use Discussion Time and report any posts you feel offend rather than respond to them, it does work you know.0 -
Hi everyone
Just a reminder that if you're here to help give ideas and suggestions to the original poster then great. If you're discussing the reasoning behind benefits and grants' policy then please discuss that on the Discussion Board.
Thanks!
