good Afternoon to all

Hello everyone, hope you are all well?

I applied for Abbey's Bank Account - after reading Sutton's post - ticking the basic option on the form.

Received an email today saying I had been declined - poo - but I could have the basic one instead I have to ring and let them know.

Can I ask if I accept the basic account would I get upgraded to electron if I manage the account properly?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Yes within 3 months, why don't you go into branch and ask for an instant plus. You get an Electron straight away. Then 3 months later if you run it well you will get a Abbey account and a further 3 months a multifunction card. HTH

Here's a quote from the email they sent me, should I appeal?

Thank you for choosing to bank with Abbey.

Unfortunately at this time we can't offer you either the Abbey Account or the Abbey Instant Plus Account that you applied for, but we are pleased to offer you the Basic Account.

The Basic account comes with a cash card and the facility to set up standing orders and Direct Debits to pay for things. You can manage your account using our cash machine network, telephone banking service or via the Internet. You can even get money out at the Post Office.

Rather than simply opening this account for you, we wanted to check that you still wanted to proceed on the basis of reduced facilities.

You are able to appeal this decision. If you want to do this please forward a letter requesting the application be reconsidered with your reasons for appealing against our decision. Your application will then be forwarded to the Appeals Officer for further consideration.

Don't appeal just open the basic then upgrade in the branch ask them to try every month. Once they see you are using the account they will first upgrade it to the Instant Plus then give you an Electron card then to the Abbey account, this all happened to me within 3 months. HTH

Ok will do, but if I have been declined now on credit scoring (they used Experian) would they still credit score me after 3 months do you think?
