The rule on not taking holiday leave while off sick is designed to protect workers from being "persuaded" to take holiday leave rather than sick leave. It is meant to make sure you get a holiday rather than use it to cover sick time.
Not allowing people to carry over holiday leave is something that most companies do. To be honest being you have accrued most of this holiday entitlement while you've been off work anyway, I would have thought letting you carry over 10 days is reasonable.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. When I worked for the NHS and was off lerm term sick I accured holiday but was only allowed to carry 10 days over. The way we got around it was when I went back I went back short hours, taking 2 hours holiday every day till I used up all I was owed.
It wasnt within NHS guidelines but I had a good working relationship with my manager0 -
There is no legal requirement to carry forward any holiday at all, so yes, I think this is a good offer also.0

If you cannot use up all of your four weeks' holiday in one leave year, you cannot carry it over to the next leave year. The law does not let your employer pay you for holiday you have lost because you have not been able to take those days off.

I am fairly sure there was a case last year (discussed somewhere on these boards!) which established that if you're off sick for a full year, you don't build up entitlement to paid leave. Don't know how that would affect you exactly: another good place to go for help and advice is ACAS. They'd know how it would affect maternity pay as well.
But have you asked to see a physiotherapist? Your GP may be saying it's not pregnancy related, but if it's affecting your legs then an obstetric physio might have a different opinion. Of course if it's in your face (where my mum gets it!) then it's less likely ...
