Sony Centre-"nothing to do with Sony"

Bought DD2 Sony MP3 for Christmas, from Sony Centre, Cribbs Causeway.
It worked for only a couple of days before screen went blank, so we took it into Sony Centre in Cirencester, near where we live, only to be told that they were a franchise and therefore we had to take it back to the shop where it was purchased. OK, fair enough.
So DH takes it in there today only to be offered an address to send it back to, "and make sure you wrap it up well in bubblewrap and send it resistered post" etc. Excuse me, he says, but i would like you to sort it out for me. "Oh no, we aren't anything to do with Sony", she says standing there with Sony emblazoned across her chest. "You have to do it".
DH getting a little irate by now, daughter having only had use of thing for a day, Sony having had our money for over a month and then this female denying all knowledge of company her shop plainly deals with exclusively. Tells her he knows his rights, and to fetch manager. Manager tells her to do as asked, so she comes back and asks "why are you giving me all this grief sir?" WHAT?????? Then she says that if they send it back there will be a delay......(as in they will leave it lying round shop for a few days to teach us a lesson???)..as it will take time to take to post office....i mean don't they get deliveries from Sony, don't they ever have to return stufff??
Probably not, as they get all the customers to do their job for them.
I am livid. I will never buy anything from them again.

Telling you that it's not their responsibility and that you have to deal with the manufacturer directly is illegal. Perhaps Trading Standards should be notified - might teach them a lesson.0
-
Why don't you tell them tomorrow you want your money back. Perfectly within your rights. Then if your daughter is sold on the Sony one, go get another from here in Cirencester. If not, get something else.0
-
No perhaps about reporting it to Trading Standards, report it first thing tomorrow. Also speak to the manager of the store."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

i just went on their website, it thinks my nearest store is 5 miles away in belfast....not bad for living in chester!(northwest england/northeast wales) haha0

I have had problems with a product I bought at the Sony Centre and yes Sony said they have nothing to do with the Sony centre! Sounds like "Sony Centre" is a very cunningly named franchise!
Nevertheless, the responsibility to sort out the problem whenever you buy anything lies firmly and undeniably with the retailer, not with the manufacturer.0 -
It is their problem, I would have got my money back!
The sony centre in norwich went bust a while back.( i think)0 -

i have e-mailed Sony Head Office, yesterday, but have yet to receive a reply!

IIRC, Sony Centre were owned by Capital Sound & Vision based in Crawley in Sussex, who also ran the unbeatable.co.uk website. They went bust about 12 months ago and all the shops closed. Don't know who took some of the shops over.0 -
I think they only owned some but not all of them so only the ones that were ran by them closed.0
