Onetel Customers to be transferred to TalkTalk call plans

    A friend of mine also on OneTel have gotten a letter from TT (with a small OneTel logo at bottom of page) stating they will soon be migrated over to TT and there would be no difference in tariffs, etc.

    This letter arrived a few days ago so their (TT/OneTel) statement that there will be no difference in tariffs, etc is complete and utter crap!

    My friend has linerental with OneTel and wasn't informed of the price increase that took effect from 1st of this month so saying there is no difference in tariffs, etc was wrong because their linerental increased by 50p on 1st March. This letter was received before 1st March anyhow when OneTel's linerental was £9.99.

    I had a sneaky suspicion the reason why the increase in Linerental occured was to bring their (OneTel) tariffs in line with TT so when the move did happen then OneTel can claim there would be no difference in tariffs, prices, etc.

    No specific date was given for migrating but they were given a £15 voucher to spend at CPW (providing they spent over £50).

    My friend is in the process of moving back to BT and then onto Euphony for calls - keeping linerental with BT. They moved linerental to OneTel despite me saying they'll regret it later which they have. They will now take advantage of free CLI which despite having CLI-ready phones didn't have CLI with OneTel because they had to pay for it!

    Onetel line rental for online billing was actually £9.75 per month, it's gone up to £10.49 less 50p discount, so it's currently £9.99 per month for customers using online billing.

    I can't see any similar discount for TalkTalk customers. :confused:

    Onetel and TalkTalk's tariffs are still different - Onetel has the discount for online billing, but TalkTalk has the free calls to other TT customers. I can't see how they can claim that there will be no difference in tariff, unless they intend carrying the billing discount over to TT tariffs.

    They could do, or it could just be to avoid people switching. If they sent letters out stating that they are being migrated over and the tariffs, etc could go up then I guess even more OneTel customers would leave.

    Remember OneTel are in a habit not to inform their customers of any increase whatsoever. Recent examples include line rental charges, OneTel DQ service and cost of 0844 non-geographical numbers.

    Not strictly related to this thread but very near and could be relevant when OneTel customers get migrated over to TT.

    Anyhow, I was reading an interesting thread on SayNo here, and specifically a post from Shiqqaddi:-
    ...However what worried me in their letter was this quote:-

    "TalkTalk plus will soon include line rental from TalkTalk. We will let you know in advance when you can expect to be transferred to this service. BT or another access operator will be responsible for your line rental. Please see our TalkTalk terms and conditions on https://www.talktalk.co.uk or contact us on 0870 087 9000"

    Now my agreement with Tele2 was purely for CPS. I've decided to move over to HomePhone and have asked HomePhone to provide a service...
    Now it's not very clear if Tele2 (or eventually OneTel) customers will be automatically migrated to linerental but it does make you wonder if TT will try and slip this in even though Ofcom ruled this was wrong (see NonGeographicalMan's post here).
  • The advantage of Onetel for me is that it is one of the few available to non-BT customers (via a 0800 number). I don't think talk talk offer this, so will we still be able to use onetel?
    Can we now get nectar points from onetel?

    Like call1899, call18185 and 18866.
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Their are a few left that provide access via 0800 https://www.phone.coop is another one.
  • I'm an existing Onetel customer but have my line with BT (thank goodness!!) and have just signed up with Primus via Quidco and Uswitch cos I don't want to be with Talk Talk and cos I'll get free weekend and 5p for 90 minutes evening calls, £5 credit per month from Primus, and £8.00 from Quidco. Also, this plan is just right for a light user like me and won't attract the £2.99 charge in year 2.
    I rang Onetel yesterday and told them of my dissatisfaction with their service (eg sending me a 'blank' information email re talk talk ('We have important information for you, please read' - then followed a large blank space!!), promising I could have the 99p per month for LeisureUk service from January but not receiving it til this month, not replying to emails etc etc), asked if Talk Talk would offer the same service and was told they did not have that information. Asked how much notice to cancel their service and was told 'no notice' - this was the only useful information they gave me!!
    Next, I rang Talk Talk and was clearly told their terms and conditions which I was not impressed with.
    I'm going to cancel the onetel Direct Debit (on line) as soon as Primus is up and running. :o
