  • I have had a reply from TalkTalk with a cc sent to Onetel:

I can confirm that OneTel is staying OneTel, upto now we are not migrating customers from OneTel to TalkTalk, if the situation changes you will recieve confirmation about this.

The E-Mail says OneTel is staying OneTel up to now,it does not say it want change in the near future, which is what op was told, also if you go to OneTel site to try and sign up it refers you to TT site to do so.I recall reading at the time of the takeover that it was their intention to amalgamate all the brands they took over under the TT banner.

  • For those who are going to go with the change, its worth popping into a local cpw store and pre-empting the change, so you can take advantage of the deals in store - either free e&w calls for a year, or free anytime calls for 3 months (both provided you take the line rental.

Surely these deals are open only to new customers not existing ones?

I personally would not move my line rental to them for a number of reasons. One of which is their Line Rental is dearer then BT if you have Caller Display, and 1571.
Another is they can block calls to 1899 etc.

Obviously you're right about those things, and you're right about it only being for new customers - but for those on onetel/tele2, they're not tt customers yet, so are able to get those deals.

I agree we will all be migrated over eventually. Aren't they migrating Tele2 now did I read in a thread? If so, OneTel wont be that far behind.

OneTel have already started increasing some of their prices in line with TT's so I'm guessing thats so when the letter about migration gets sent out then to soften the blow, OneTel will say that there won't be any change in price (no need to as they already charge the same) and in fact there will be very little change in tariffs as the main one will be the 70min call length limit before call becomes chargable.

They're doing it this way so many people will just go "well there's hardly no change and it costs the same so we'll stay". It was either that or if OneTel hadn't increased their line rental then they'd have to say that "your being moved to TT oh and you'll be paying more". I believe the latter way would mean that more people would leave OneTel then.

I believe all this to be true as they still haven't informed any of their line rental customers that their line rental is increasing to £10.50 which is nothing unusual for OneTel.

The next cheapest all inclusive for new customers though appears to be from Primus Saver 3 when signing up via uswitch.com. Below, I believe, are currently the cheapest options for those wanting all-inclusive calls (obviously excluding non-geographical numbers):-
    • Primas Saver 3 (all inclusive calls) normally £8.49 but sign up in February via Uswitch.com and a £5 monthly loyalty bonus paid quarterly (£15). This would mean that it will cost £3.49 per month for a year.

    • TalkTalk3 (all inclusive calls) normally £9.99 but get £4 rebate on your bill every month for a year if you sign-up also via Uswitch.com. This by my calculation would cost £5.99 per month for a year. It very clearly states on USwitch that your line rental is paid to BT at £11p/month.
Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier this is for new customers though.
  • TT are now barring access to short codes eg 1899 for Line rental Customers.

I've been expecting that for a while. TT have (or soon will have) millions more customers (ie those on Tele2, OneTel and JDS) so they dont have a need anymore to keep the short codes for Indirect Access carriers (Call18866, etc) open so as to attract people on to their tariffs including line rental. This is especially true as they are no longer doing any special offers for those wanting to keep line rental with BT and TT's website only seems to include tariffs for those taking their line rental.

    I've been Money Tipped!
My last month with Onetel is May, I signed up on 17th of May last year, that was when the changeover went through. What would be the best thing to do? I don't make a major amount of calls in the evening etc, mainly during the day with 1899 etc. Someone mentioned Dial Saver?

  • Just Dial have said they are no longer taking new customers for the free evening and w/end deal so Primus is now the company recommended by Martin as the cheapest. You need to call them rather than sign up online icon7.gif

If you are on TalkTalk plan 1 you will get free 01/02 calls at the w/end and can use 1899 for the rest of the time if you don't want to switch to Primus.
