We're with OneTel. I've been expecting a letter now for weeks. As pointed out earlier, Tele2 and JDS are no longer available which hasn't come as a surprise. ....

We're with Tele2 and have just come to the end of a 12 month free evening and w/end calls to 01/02 nos. I have recently received a letter from Talktalk - which really adds nothing to what is already accessed via a link on the Tele2 website to their website - except that we're to be transferred (at some unspecified date - "soon") to their £3.99/month tarriff and Tele2 will send us a final bill.
I have already contacted Primus (- very efficient to date!)....all scheduled for switch over on 8th Feb.....

I don't think that will be the case. I would imagine whatever credit/debit that is on your Onetel account at the time of changeover will be carried over.
I'm still unsure. I believe TT are not obliged to 'take on' any credits OneTel customers may have especially as its not in their interest to do so. I'm not taking a risk so this weekend I'll remove Call18866/1899 from the dialler and have all geo calls routed via CPS and just keep an eye on the account until it gets to about £12 or so (currently £25 in credit). Assuming TT/OneTel give us at least one months notice then it'll be easier using up the £12 and in the meantime we'll stay on the E&W even after the free offer runs out (we're currently on month 11) because the £12 credit will give us about 3months of E&W calls.
  • Just noticed my 12 months free evening and weekend calls deal is almost up with Onetel. Can anyone remember if you can cancel any time or is it a 12 month contract? If any time I will start the changeover to another service now.

I'm in the same position, I noticed that we have just had the last 'month 12' credit on the January bill, and will pay 3.99 for the service for February. However, our 12 months is not up until the 21st - we had two full credits (total 7.98) on our first bill to cover a full month plus a small part month, so all is OK. ;)

Any changes of call plan, etc., only come into force at the next billing date, so I'm going to downgrade to the free weekend calls only after the issue of this bill. I will then start looking round for the best deal with a view to swapping after the billing date. If you moved earlier, I would imagine you would at least have to pay back the last credit... not sure whether the terms stated that the 12 month period had to be fulfilled.
  • Had a look online and my month 12 credit was on the 15th Jan. I have emailed them for confirmation on when I should change to the free weekend deal although it appears any time before the billing date should be fine.

There was no minimum term contract at all on their free E&W calls for 1 year promotion they ran. Remember it will take about 2 weeks for change of CPS to go through so to be on safe-side then wait till about 3 weeks before end of free offer and swap to Primus as discussed by pricefighter, or alternatively, another provider.

As far as I can tell, except for Tiscali Talk, no other CPS provider does free calls without being subject to a maximum single call length of generally around an hour or so. This is why I had my sights on moving to Tele2 when our OneTel 12months offer was up but thanks to TT there are no other cheaper suppliers except Euphony which costs £7.25 (i think) but is limited to 60mins though.
  • I better start the changeover now then as the next Billing date on Onetel is around the 15th February. Will change it to the free weekends one now and then phone Primus to get the ball rolling.

I've been looking at the TalkTalk website this morning, and cannot find anything about CPS. I am right in assuming that TalkTalk only accepts line rental customers.

Does that mean that when we have our Onetel accounts integrated into TalkTalk they will expect us to sign up for line rental as well?

They do CPS on its own without Line Rental ,but they dont promote it.If you ask them for it they will give it you,but charge the full rate, no offers.

They wont expect you / cant make you sign for line rental, but will of course promote it to you in the hope that you might.

As you will see from this thread people are already moving away from OneTel to get the Primus Saver 2 FREE E&W 01/02 call deal, which would cost £3.99 a month with TT,and has been recently increased to £3.99 a month for new users with OneTel.

I personally wouldn't be surprised if they "accidently" put customers on their line rental as well. Claiming it was a mistake or something and hoping that you wont/can't be bothered to change back to BT. I wonder when TT move us all to their expensive TT plans they will try and put us on their line rental as well.

I read an ofcom investigation a while ago in to TT t&c that (if memory serves me correct) was worded that we would be automatically transferred onto TT line rental and only if we said no would they not move us. Ofcom deemed this unfair and it was amended.
