Whatever you are using sounds too harsh. I always use sugar soap, it's usually available in your local hardware store.

I tthink it depends on the paint too, some emulsions will come off even if you only use a damp cloth!

  • Agree with Glad. Sometimes you need to use a slightly abrasive cloth to remove sticky marks and emulsion paint does tend to come off on the cloth. Tend to wipe off marks on a daily basis in my house and couldn't be bothered mixing up a sugar soap solution for tiny marks.

I have recently redorated my hall, stairs and landing using Dulux Real Life Matt emulsion and so far am very impressed with the ease of wiping off marks - with no evidence of paint on the cloth.

Please do not bump posts, but rather post a link to them for newer readers.

To find out how to do links you can use the MSE A-Z Guide written by sra:-

    bump posts

if you mean why did I post on an older thread to bring it up, that's what I thought would be most helpful

can you tell me where this is A-Z is

and how new do you have to be not to get a public telling off by an official for a simple mistake?

    Hi ladygrey,

Sorry, the above link to the A-Z wasn't working but is now. :)

If you go to sra's Unofficial A-Z and in that thread click on Links (inserting in posts) you will find a step by step guide to inserting links.

Soda Crystals disolved in a solution of warm water. Really cheap from the local supermarket, goes a long way and leaves paintwork gleaming!! Make sure you wear rubber gloves though as not kind to your skin.
