would you be happy to drive your ideal car on only third party insurance because if you have a bump they will not repair your car

As posted earlier, that's always the case with third party insurance.

But that only applies if you caused the damage yourself. If the damage is caused by someone else, then you can get them (or their insurers) to pay for the costs involved.

please double check you policy as normally you can only drive another vehicle third party if you are already fully comp which you arent,
  • when i passed my test i drove i drove a clio 1.2 for 3 years and it was £1300 tpft, so i understand how crippling the insurance is being a young driver. Im now 25 and have a 2l turbo and its £570 fully comp, and thats with 4 years ncb (lost 2 years after someone keyed my car - £1200 worth of damage :( )

one company i can recommend are Adrian Flux , for the past few years they taken my insurance down by at least £200! over other insurance companies, might be worth a try.

good luck and keep safe on the roads :)

Ask them for the policy terms and conditions and check it in detail.

No it applies to third party on my policy.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.
  • Just bite the bullet and insure your own car in your own name.

Will the policy on the "banger" be all inclusive? If not you might not be covered to drive any other car. Thats before you get into any accident you might have on your "dad's" second car which will affect his insurance. (a claims a claim whether it affects your (protected?)NCB or not).
The other car must have valid insurance (dont care what Quinn say). Tax might not make a difference, but an MOT might.

6 points will mean a retake of test/theory. No insurance? 6 points. Is it worth the risk for a Leon?.

i agree, even ask for it in writing! , they will use any excuse they can to get out of paying in an event of an accident/claim :)

well I can see why he would be happy cause he would have to pay extra for the fully comp, than one thing actually I wonder for myself and he might be thinking the same way.

Few years ago I had an accident it was declare at the end not my fault as I throught it would. The car that hit me had massive damage about say £1K worth at least. But on my car had just £50 paint job. So lets say £300 insurance paint job. I was fully comp on that, and my insurance company did say many times esp at the beginning do you want to get your car fix, and I decline. It is all now settled, and I am not going to ask "can I go back and claim this or that from other insurance now." But I wonder this. If I accepted my insurance company offer and got the car repaired... (I was fully comp.) They would of repaired it, but since my excess was £1000, and no blame was decided they said it was both our fault to start with. (I lost my NCD until the following year when it was re-instated.) I would of had to pay the £300 to start with, and if it than turn out to be not my fault I would of got that £300 back correct? But if it turn out to be my fault I would of had to pay that £300 hence lost £250? If the latter is the case that is other reason why he doesnt want to be fully comp, cause of excess they would add to this policy anyway, it does not make it worth it.

I dont see how if he have accident in his dads second car it will affect his dad's insurance. Cause the claim for the accident will go on his son insurance not his. So in the following year when he call for a renewal, he can say truthfully "no I havent had an accident or a claim in the last 3/5 years." If his son was a named driver on his policy that is different. And the LEON will have insurance, MOT and tax. The insurance cover will be provided whoever his father is insured by. And if it is an expensive car I would assume it will have / easily get MOT and tax I think he will pay for it. I have to say I did think about this ages ago myself, but never did it for numerous reasons in the end.

I already have insurance in my name.

If Quinn say in writing the car is insured then how exactly am I going to get 6 points for an uninsured car?
