    Doesn't it say any other car not owned by the policy holder?
    (Otherwise, you could have people insuring an old banger and driving a roller!)

    when you work it all out would it not work out cheaper to insure the car on your own.
    the purchase of car £1500
    purchase of the older car£300 as i doubt you will get one taxed and mot for less
    tax , mot ,insurance of the older car
    insurance of the new car by your father
    Insure my current car - £1,125,
    Tax - £210,
    MOT - A lot (my car is dodgy),

    Total = £1,335.

    Buy a Leon - £1,500,
    Tax - £180 ish,
    Insurance - £3,144.88 (TP),
    Sell my current car - £-700,

    Total = £4,150 ish,

    Buy a Leon - £1,500,
    Tax - £180 ish,
    Old banger - £50,
    Insurance on old banger - £1,125,
    Sell my current car - £-700

    £2,155

    aka upgrading to a newer car for £820...

    It does say the car can't be in my name - but theres nothing stopping my Dad buying it, and then me using his second car...

    but this isnt taking into account the insurance you will have to pay on the banger even if it is through your dad and i will be highly unlikely that you will gwt a taxed and mot'd car for £50

    Yeah - the insurance on the banger is £1,125. All I need is a car that could be fixed if needs be and is insurable.

    Insurance on the leon would be free for me, or about £130 for my Dad...

    well actually the first car, the banger how I understand it, he doesn't even need MOT or tax for it, he can insure it and just keep it off the road. And how I see he is "thinking of doing it" is quite a good way. Since he can drive a more expensive car as third party but at a less cost.

    But some things to check out, does your original policy cover x number days, cause some will only cover like 30 days driving other person car.

    and for your father, he might be using his NCD on his first car, but quite a few insurance companies will also match the NCD on his second car. Which some screenscapers will take into account whenit find cheaper insurance quotes for you.

    They said (on the phone) that there were no limits - as long as it's a car that I don't own thats not a commercial vehicle it's fine. No time, engine or age limits.

    would you be happy to drive your ideal car on only third party insurance because if you have a bump they will not repair your car

    I don't have much choice being a young driver - I pay £1,125 on my proton TPF&T, or I could pay £1,800 for Fully Comp - The biggest thing I need is to get some NCB under my belt (I passed my test 2 months ago), if I do claim on the insurance atm it will cost me more in the long-run anyway so it seems pointless to pay for Fully Comp if i can't use it.
