last week I made lasagne with red lentils replacing half the mince I usually use and everyone preferred it. So last night I made red lentil curry and it was gorgeous as regards taste but the texture was a bit mushy so next time I'll make more of a vegetable curry with carrots and cauli for some bite.
So I'm now on a roll and I'm going to try more pulses recipes. They do need to have lots of seasoning however as we all hate the mealy taste and texture of pulses on their ownIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

It's a nice idea but with everyone's pockets and tastes being different it would probably be a little too difficult to do.
It's really just a boundary stretching idea. Jumping out of our food comfort zones for a while. I know that I get a little complacent sometimes and especially with meal planning we can get stuck using the same meals and ingredients again and again. It's just nice to be able to say, never tried it, lets give it a go and see if I can pull it offOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

I usually plan to do something different each week, but end up doing the same ol' same ol'. EG use the meat i had planned to but end up using it in a way i normally do...so this will encourage me to stick to my meal plan. This week: corned beef hash of the recipe thread on this board.Trying to tidy and clean while the kids are still growing, is like trying to clear snow even though it's still snowing

Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Count me in! I've just looked through the February issue of the Good Food magazine and seen a lovely sounding recipe for a veggie lasgne. Normally OH kicks up a fuss at foods containing too many vegetables, but he'll just have to lump it. That'll be my first attempt (prob next week now as I've only been to Tesco this evening for the week).
I also got some cod loin steaks (yellow sticker, obviously) in Tesco and I'm sure I've got a recipe for something exciting to do with it........... otherwise it'll be with parsley sauce!

Hello...this sounds like fun! I know I am in a rut regards food. I stick to the small number of recipes that I know I like, can cook and which will freeze. Need to get out of that comfort zone as it's a bit boring. Though I do occasionally try a new cake and test it on my colleagues.
However I think I will aim for once a fortnight - I live alone, and have been trying lately to cook a large amount and then freeze whatever is left after I've had the first portion. I've got limited room in my freezer, and limited time so fortnightly would suit me better.
I'm itching to make some marmalade, so that will be my first new recipe. Just hope there are some seville oranges in the shops on Saturday.
BTW thank you to Arkonite_Babe for reminding me about N.Ireland's veg roll....I haven't had it for about 20 years as I lived "abroad" - ie Italy, USA, then England (well it's across the sea!). Am going to buy some of that and have it with two beef sausages, an egg and some soda bread on a frosty cold evening for my tea. Complete with HP sauce and a massive mug of tea it is the most wonderful, warming and satisfying meal ever. And I'll have a piece of toast with marmalade for brekkie the next day.0 -
I'd like to join in, too - but not this week, as I have already written out a menu plan of sorts, and have used up my supply of money for this week! But next week I will look through here & see whose ideas I can pinch!!!!0

Well I've done it.
Tried Curry Queen's curry tonight and EVERYONE (even 2 fussy kids) eat the lot!
Thanks for the nudge in the right direction.
Going to try Jamie Oliver's Pizza at the weekend!:wave:0 -
Well I know its not very adventurous but I only just started this OS lark. I am afraid I have been a slave to ready meal type rubbish for too long. So I am a recent convert.
Tonight I made the Celery Soup and it was delicious. A really tasy, filling meal for less than 30p. I will never but a tin of soup again.
