Thanks cloud_dog, I already have the FF 'tuning' plug-in - normally runs faster than IE, but hasn't for the last couple of days (problems at t'other end methinks). Suspect it's probably 'over tuned' for the current service - probably a large blocks/max threads thing causing a few too many re-sends so maybe the 'de-tuned' (ie standard) IE is meandering its way through the swamp a bit better...

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

If you have problems with Firefox crashing and losing your data ot tabs download an extension called session saver - it reopens the browser exactly as you left it - tabs open and everything.

the only thing that i prefered with IE is with the google toolbar you can click on your search term to find it in the document, and with firefox i seem to need to slect find in this page. is it possible to get the same function in firefox?

Just install the Google toolbar which will then display your search terms as per IE. Click on these and your cursor will find the term, or use the yellow highlighter option to highlight all references to the search term on the web page.

Google toolbar for FF can be installed from:

    http://toolbar.google.com/firefox/index.html

    Cheers,

thanks - i have just been incredibly stupid - since firefox has the google search box at the top, it never occured to me to install the toolbar separately.

Not at all. It took me weeks of playing with FF and trying to see how to display search terms on a toolbar before I thought of going to the Google tools site. All because there was already a Google search box in FF as standard. So that makes two of us and I bet we aren't alone.

If you are finding websites that dont accept Opera it may be worth setting your preferences to "Identify as Internet Explorer".

It may seem crazy but the site will then open as intended.

    TOOLS/QUICK PREFERENCES/"Identify as Internet Explorer"

That may explain IE's seemingly high useage rate!!! :D

Ok, there's one thing stopping me from switching from FF to Opera - Google Toolbar. Any one got any ideas / info if there is one or one in the making??

I use firefox all day and all night as a it pro, and as nightime !!!!!! site developer. It rocks, to my mind: its quick, ctrl + t is the mutts nuts ;) and to my mind crashed a lot less than IE. Also less susceptable to spyware.

All the above is MHO of course, but I just retain IE for those sites that wont work, ie intranet sites :(
