Ok, got curious about Opera (having been quite happy with FF) so downloaded it and away I went.
Initial thoughts on Opera: Seems to be faster than FF, I prefer the look 'n' feel, trash can is useful, mouse gesters (as per FF), able to save sessions (a number of tabs for a window (in FF you can do this but ut is based on user profile (login)) - so excellent.
If any of you knowledgeable Opera users can resolve these ouple of issues I think I would switch to Opera. So, is there anyway to:
* move the Tab headers so they are directly above the main page, i.e. make them the bottom toolbar? (tried the customise options)
* to expanding the search bar? (tried the customise options)
* to make the fine tune the Google search bar to mae it UK specific, i.e. FF Google search bar, etc?
* to display the mouse gesture as you draw - I like it that way :-)
* oh yeah, how do you configure a mouse gesture to zoom in/out (use this quite a lot)
Come on, give me good news and I'll convert.

I find opera a better rounded web browser.
It is sleeker, and a bit quicker, although as with firefox, initial start-up of th ebrowser is a bit sluggish; but after that they are both pretty quick.
Try both of them and see how it goes!

I don't think this is possible, or at least not from what I've seen. I personally prefer them along the top, but each to their own.cloud_dog wrote:to expanding the search bar? (tried the customise options)

Yeah this is annoying. There's a good app that you can use to help.
http://opera-info.xorg.pl/en. You basically just have to go through the address for each one and try changing it to .co.uk. I got Google, Amazon and a few others to work myself.cloud_dog wrote:to display the mouse gesture as you draw - I like it that way :-)
I think I know what you mean, but no idea. Sorry.cloud_dog wrote:oh yeah, how do you configure a mouse gesture to zoom in/out (use this quite a lot)
Hold the Ctrl key and role the wheel. You can configure you own gestures but shouldn't really need to. Opera was the first to implement this kind of feature (before FF). Here are all the common inbuilt ones:

This site is great for any little tweaks:

And this is a great article why to use Opera. It may outline a few other things you weren't aware of:

Watch out for Avant, it might look very different on the surface, but underneath it is still Internet Explorer and still has all the same underlying security holes.

i find opera is less compatible than firefox - at least with anything to do with microsoft (hotmail and other things on the msn site) or any of my internet banking accounts.
the only thing that i prefered with IE is with the google toolbar you can click on your search term to find it in the document, and with firefox i seem to need to slect find in this page. is it possible to get the same function in firefox?:happyhear0 -
Wolfie, thanks for the reply. Very informative, and the links are opening up a whole new browser world (I thought FF was pretty good compared to IE). Need to spend some time getting into panels and customisation / sidebars, etc.wolfman wrote:I don't think this is possible, or at least not from what I've seen. "to expanding the search bar? (tried the customise options)"
Not sure what you mean by this...
I tend to browse with a theme in mind, i.e. financial (bank / investment sites), MSE'ing (MSE, Hotukdeals, quidco / shopping), news etc, etc so with the flexibility of being able to store 'session' windows I've created a few (as described) but when you are in a window clicking between the tabs you have to mouse over the other bars; on occasions (I say occasions, I mean the last two hours) I clicked on the wrong button.
"Expanding the search bar", basically I mean to elongate the input field on the Goolge search. In FF you can go into "Customise" (right mouse click on the main bars), click customise and then (whilst the customise window is open) actually drag the end of the Google search input filed bigger or smaller.
Another plus I've noticed is the <ctrl><tab> feature works much better than FF, its the same as <alt><tab> for normal windows, allowing you to select the tab to go to rather than cycling through them all.
All in all v.impressed and will now trawl through your links. Think I'm a convert. Will really miss seeing my mouse gestures though :-(

p.s. oh, btw, still cannot get past Kerio. Set a number of windows apps to "Ask" and tried to access the folder got Win32 Services and Windows File Print Sharing processes to pop-up asking permission. Allowed it and updated the rule but am still unable to access the folder contents - any ideas??Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

Try downloading and running the FF finetune app - it really makes a difference. See Steve_r123 post on page 1 at 30-01-2006, 9:26 PM.
