How Do I keep my numerous BT email addresses if I change ISP

I've just tried sending an e-mail from my BT Internet account whilst not connected to BT. I used Freeserve dial-up, but it wouldn't send. The message Outlook Express gives appears to come from Wanadoo saying I need to use its SMTP server and refers me to its website for guidance.
So I don't know whether you can use BT's SMTP server with authentication from non-BT internet connections.
Anyway, which ISP are you with now, and have you tried using its SMTP server. You may need to enter a password for that account, as I described above.0 -

Make sure in Connections, the box is ticked for "Always connect to the account using" and set to your isp, for all accounts.
Hope this helps
Yes, that will do it, but I will need to drop my broadband connection which is a bit messy to do regularly.
Thanks a lotTo infinity and beyond!0 -

I think you are right, I think you have to be connected to BT to be able to do this, but when I posted this at the top of the thread, GeoThermal amd HonestJohn posted to say that it can definately be done. I hope it can be and that I am proved wrong !

Not sure what you mean, why do you need to drop your broadband connection?
I mean I'm on broadband and it works for me, sorry I'm a bit confused0 -
You should only do this if you cannot get it to work via your broadband connection.wonderfullife wrote:Hi

Sorry, I thought that you meant that I should get it to always connect using the BT internet connection !wonderfullife wrote:Not sure what you mean, why do you need to drop your broadband connection?

If you are using the BT Internet/Openworld SMTP server and connecting via BT Internet, it should work. I don't know about using BT SMTP via another provider. I think we need to get it working via BT connection first.mike_paterson wrote:Sorry, I thought that you meant that I should get it to always connect using the BT internet connection !

Perhaps it is a firewall problem.0 -

I too am with e7. I specified smtp.e7even.com as the outgoing mail server for my BT account in outlook and everything works ok. All my outgoing mail appears to come from my BT account no problems.Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning. Albert Einstein0 -
Went to send this earlier and the electric went off!
If you have old email addresses with BT Internet, which you want to send email from while connected via a different ISP it is the "new" ISP's SMTP server you have to use.
For example my ISP is virgin.net. However I still have my old BT Internet email addresses. So I set up an email account in Outlook for say justatest@btinternet.com. The POP3 server is mail.btinternet.com however the smtp server is smtp.virgin.net. Works fine.
Hope that helps.0
