    Thanks for the above information!

Seems a bit odd really as I guess most people with no knowledge of these things would expect it to be the opposite that the signal would be best in clear conditions. So it's handy to know - I will be checking the weather before I re-scan channels now!

    Cheers :T

As Tony says, there are lots of things that affect the signal. I can actual see the top of the transmitter tower from my chimney but cannot always pick up the one block of channels from a particular Mux, even on a clear day.

    This site http://www.ukfree.tv/transmitters.php
(It's a lot more sophisicated than the earlier postcode check website from Freeview a few years ago).

It may help to show what signal strength you can expect from the various Muxes from your local transmitter. Type in your post code. Then look for this line.

"Some channels (click here for list) are on lower power so you may be able to receive some but not all."

As you will see they dont all have the same strength or transmition direction and that, combined with atmospheric conditions, may mean you cannot always receive them.
If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.
If my Auntie had been a man she'd have been my Uncle.

lol I actually liked the orange and the tape measure!!!:rotfl:
I have no idea which way my aerial is facing. I am in a new build so thought the aerial must be quite decent.
That site actually confused me even more
I can get channel 5 on one freeview tv but not on another, in fact none of the 5 channels!!!
    Damn technology:mad:

I also like the orange idea, very desriptive!

Our reception seems to be completely arbitary; our fuse box tripped earlier today and the box lost all its channels - had only analogue BBC1 & 2, ITV1 & ch4, had to read the instructions to find out how to re-scan! Have done it but don't have as many channels as we did earlier today - Film 4 for example, which I will miss. In a rented house, otherwise would have got someone in to tweak the aerial and install another aerial point indoors too, never mind, rarely have time to watch what I want and am stuck with CBeebies/CBBC most of the day anyway!

Re the new channels which have been made available on Freeview - most people will not be interested in the expensive chat phone lines service that is SmileTV2, although some quite bonny lassies remove their bikini tops later on in the evening...:-)

Details of the earlier ON/ITVDigital set top boxes that won't receive the new type of Freeview digital transmissions can be found at:

    http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0015/21057/for_website_2K_only_models_ex_volumes_revised-22Dec08-Sony.pdf

No use blaming the set top box manufacturers as these are at least six to 10 years old and manufactured long before new technology and the eventual demise of analogue transmissions...:-)

    New channels
    what new channels?

If you took away all the "plus 1" channels you`d actually have less channels.

Plus 1 are hardly new channels.

With the massive archives of the BBC and ITV and Channel 4,who supply Freeview, you would think that we`d have a wide choice of viewing and not the same regurgitated programs.

For instance ITV 4, Minder, shown last night and twice today.
The same episode shown three times in less than 24 hours.
They must have made hundreds of episodes but we get the same dozen over and over again.
  • Whilst this piece of kit is as good as the Sky+ box it will only work whilst connected to a BT internet service.I too have tried to update the channels on this but afterwards they were still in the same place-any comments? Also does anyone know how to make this work if not connected to a BT internet source as I want to change suppliers due to slow speeds?
  • Freeview is not turning out for many people to be great, that is either technically trying to connect or the quality of programmes/channels. ITV have a smaller library of programmes hence the bigger repeat cycle. It seems UKTV have a large stake in digital television, but the majority of its programs are BBC. From the UKTV web site below. So any of the new channels do move to Freeview, do not expect new programmes. Strange that BBC Worldwide is commercial, yet we pay a licence fee. Is this somewhat of a conflict of interests (where do the profits go ??). I like the last paragraphy saying "first look" - meaning repeats.

OFCOM are the regulatary authority, and any complaints need to be addressed to them at http://www.ofcom.org.uk/

    Quote from UKTV website:
"UKTV is a major industry player and one of the most important and successful multi-channel providers in the UK. Formed in 1997, it is an independent commercial joint venture, between Virgin Media and BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC."

"Attracting 27 million viewers each month, the network consists of ten distinctive and innovative TV channels – Watch, G.O.L.D., Dave, Alibi, UKTV History, UKTV Style, UKTV Documentary, UKTV Food, UKTV People and UKTV Gardens – offering a broad range of quality programming across entertainment, lifestyle and factual programming."

"The network’s unique relationship with the BBC gives it a ‘first look’ at its programmes for secondary broadcast in the UK. The network is dedicated to providing a quality channel platform environment for the best content producers, including some of the UK’s top independent programme makers."
