i would agree with most here, i have a 1.6 focus. £40 ish to fill up to the brim and get around 400 miles before the light comes on, not driving to economically
do you have a leak?
i had a petrol leak from my fuel filter,is there a smell of petrol inside the car when its running but sitting stationary? if so then you might have a leak.
if not then get the car serviced, this should help.
the focus is a good car, once you get the economy thing sorted you wont regret it....work permit granted!0 -
Oh..........
Am sure I get less than 300 a tank........

Seriously, I think you should check your tyres are inflated properly. When I bought my current car the tyres were only inflated to 20 psi even though it had allegedly just been serviced.
Under inflated tyres are dangerous because they can blow out but they will also cause your MPG to go down (sometimes quite significantly).0 -
Tyres are fine - work at a garage so get all bits and bobs checked regularly.thescouselander wrote: »Seriously, I think you should check your tyres are inflated properly. When I bought my current car the tyres were only inflated to 20 psi even though it had allegedly just been serviced.

Thanks for all your replies.
Our second tank seems to be going much better.. we are purposefully trying to drive very econmically and have done 200 miles to half a tank.. fingers crossed we'll get the full 400 from the whole tank!0 -
Chuck out all that unneed stuff in the boot too.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
& Choo Choo for trains!!0 -
Blimey - I don't really check..... in fact I don't check what I get to the miles for a tank of juice.
There is b all in my boot, tyres are fine and I just drive........ maybe that is my problem, if I didn't drive it, I'd do better??
I filled up yesterday - maybe I'll make a note - but if I'm not getting 1,000,000 miles to the tank, will I change it? Nope. I chose it, I like it and I will drive it. And I don't like wasting money but if I was really that worried about cost - I would've bought something like a 3 cylinder Aygo....Genie

fuel gauges are generally a bad way to work out mileage
fill the car right up
drive some miles
fill it right up again0 -
Oh I can do that all right - but I just can't be ar5ed to work out what I am getting to the gallon - or litre..........hewhoisnotintheknow wrote: »fuel gauges are generally a bad way to work out mileage

As said before - if I was that worried I would get a car with a smaller engine etc. - but I don't want one. I'd rather have a V6 something or other and be unpc. Meanwhile, I am ok with my boring 1.6, for now. And I am sure my mileage/petrol ratio is just fine. Guess it could be better if I eased off with the right foot more often, but hey, only here once...
