I make a fish pie with a tomato sauce.
Fry off chunks of peppers, Onions and any other veggie bits you may fancy, add passata (or tin of chopped toms), season well, and add any kind of fish you fancy or can afford.
Top this off with some hm shortcrust pastry and bake in the oven till the pastry is cooked. Goes down a treat in our house.0 -

Hi folks, was at supermarket this morning and there was a fish pie mix and a tray of prawns in the reduced cabinet, so I am going to make my first attempt at a fish pie.
The mix consists of smoked haddock, haddock and salmon and I want to add the prawns to make it go a little further, any simple recipes.
The one in my cookbook is poaching or steaming first, cant I just throw it all in a baking dish with a sauce and top with mash?
Thanks in advance.0 -
What I tend to do is chuck the mix in a casserole dish and cover with milk. Bake it in the oven for about half an hour. Leave a bowl of malt vinegar on the side to absorb the fish smell (I tend to leave it overnight)
Use the fish stock to make cheese sauce, add the sauce, prawns, peas and sweetcorn (I use frozen but boil them up first) to the fish and cover in mashed spud and cook for another half an hour till browned.
YummyI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Yes you could do it like that......i like to poach the fish in milk tho and use the milk to make the sauce, gives it a little more flavour especially if you use some smoked fish0

Eh, I've been known to just lob the raw fish into a parsley sauce, to with mashed spuds and throw it in the oven. All it means is that you need to ensure the fish in sauce is cooked thoroughly before serving but fortunately there are few in any health risks in eating undercooked fish.0

I tend to chop & fry and onion then chuck the fish in the pan with it, coat it with flour, add milk and the bring to the boil to thicken into sauce. This takes so long on my stove that there is absolutely no risk that the fish isn't cooked! Then chuck in the prawns and usually some frozen peas and give them a couple of minutes to warm through. Put it all in a dish, cover with mash (and grated cheese if I feel like it) then put under the grill to brown.0

As above.
I also tend to add a quartered hard boiled egg to it as well, and then cover in mustard mash (normal mash that has had some English mustard added to it after mashing) - beautiful.
Enjoy, whatever method you use.
s_dSometimes I wonder...
"why is that frisbee getting bigger?"
...and then it hits me
