I like this recipe from BBC Good Food.

I do not use eggs, and substitute the nutmeg for paprika. I add frozen peas (and/or sweetcorn), and occasionally king prawns.
    Oh well...

I'd recommend Jamie Oivers fish pie, really easy, and really yummy!

Jamie's is the best! Fish pie mix is one of the 3 of £10 at Tesco this week.

    Definitely Jamie's - so easy & tasty.

I buy fresh fish when it's marked down, pop it in the freezer & then make a fish pie when I have enough.

I think a tiny bit of smoked fish goes really well in a fish pie, something like smoked haddock. It's quite expensive but you really only need a little to add a lot of good extra flavour.

The joy of making a fish pie is that you use whatever you have to hand. One of my local fishmongers has a box of what they call offcuts for about £2 a kilo. That makes a lot of fish pie but the pieces can be very boney, so I lightly steam it and then get boning and skinning. That's not fast but it is cheap. Very cheap.

You could add a tin of tuna to bulk out the white fish :) Its always worth picking up whoopsied oddments of fish and smoked salmon and freezing them as they make a divine and cheap pie when combined - a little smoked fish really gives it some ooommmph!

Don,t forget to have a nose at your local supermarket fresh fish counter, got 500g of fish pie mix for £1 instead of approx £4.50.

L*dl do fab frozen white fish really cheap and $celand are great for their prawn rings, of which I got a couple at a quid each the other day, we love Thai fish curries and fish pies etc, grab it whenyou see it cheap and throw it in the freezer :)

BTW I use spinich, fresh or frozen and make wells in the fish part of the pie, crack a couple of eggs in, grate some nutmeg over before the mash and a blast in the oven - yummy......

A part of me has a problem with tuna. Another part of me thinks that I might as well make the most of it while I can.

I love poached salmon and always buy too much - so the leftover bits get popped into the freezer. and fish pie is usually where they end up! delish with white fish (and prawns if I have a few left in the bag after GDs have had thier fill). in fact, if I havent any poached salmon in the freezer when I make a fish pie, I open a tin of salmon to put chunks of that in! we cannot have fish pie in this house, unless its got some salmon in it!

I buy coley and pollock. Its so cheap and more sustainable than haddock and cod. I also top up on fish when i visit a family member who lives in a fishing town. I go to the docks and can get a big box of mixed fish that would cost at least £100 in mr ts for thirty quid or so.

I use the packs of fish pieces from the reduced section on the fresh fish counter and add some boiled eggs, tons of fresh parsley and frozen peas to the fish and white sauce. Top with mashed potatoes and a little grated cheese.
