I have some shortcrust pastry in the freezer, great idea, thanks!

Cook the pastry until it's slightly brown then top with grated cheese..I do that with my leek, bacon & chicken pie.

What about some herby dumplings for something different?

    4oz self raising flour
    2oz suet
    salt and pepper
    chopped parsley and chives

throw in a bowl add enough water to bind and either make into balls or cut into scone shapes
  • What about mashed carrot and turnip.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
  • I see you have pastry but my first thought would have been a crumble topping with grated cheese in it.

I was going to suggest pastry, other people are more on the ball.

Warning do not top with oats (in an effort to be healthy), my mum did this once many years ago and we still refer to the offending fish porridge which resulted :rotfl:

  • Boild eggs sliced then wheetabix and cheese sprinkled over it tastes a lot better than it sounds.

  • Rounds of sliced baguette (especially if you've got a stock of 'ready to bake' ones) brushed with melted butter and browned under the grill also works well.
