  • I personally think it should be his choice, providing he choses somewhere you will all like.

I myself would be prepared to go almost anywhere rather than Disneyland!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Check out the Thorn tree posts for California, it will give you ideas of where you want to go before you do too much looking for places to stay. Once you have a few ideas you can work out which route might work best.

You dont NEED a CC for care hire in the US, we didnt have one, and paid a 300 $ deposit- some places will still hire to you. BUT we think we paid over the odds by about 100 quid. Saying that I wouldnt have scrimped it for the world- worth every cent ;)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

over the other side of the Atlantic if it mentions RUSTIC in the title of accommodation I'd steer clear- this can sometimes mean no flushing loo, no running water, so be very wary where you see that word!!

Looks okish, not sure about the dead animals on the walls though! Micky Mouse waffle iron is a definite plus. ;)
Am sure that you could find better, or someone else could for you.
Yes the dead animals definately put me off not sure i could eat my mickey mouse waffles with a dead moose looking at me!!!!

I can understand your husband wanting a lazy fortnight by a pool - particularly as you've said he's got a hard manual job - but you also need to do some work on how much time he thinks he's going to be lazing by a pool with a 3 year old and an 8 year old wanting entertaining! Men (and forgive my sweeping generalisation:rolleyes:) generally see their own little bubble of need and requirements and do not see the wider picture that women do.

Firstly, (I would) point out this is inheritance money - and so should be spent on something memorable or a luxury item to keep (we bought a hot tub with ours;)) Is a fortnight in the Canaries going to be memorable for you both and your children? If so, get off to the travel agents - argument over. It may be that a holiday in the Canaries would be within your reach in future years, whereas California is that 'once in a lifetime' opportunity.

Secondly, you need to point out, gently, that you would love a holiday as well, and him lying by the pool and you continuing to run around after the kids is not going to work and there needs to be something on offer for the children as well. Compromise with a couple of days with your dad - and then as other posters have said it sounds there's lots to do.

    Good luck

    BTW airline sales finish Tuesday.

Oakland airport can be cheaper some times.

    These airlines fly there http://www.oaklandairport.com/airline_information.shtml
there might be an easier option if you are not near London, but you would have to make one connection in the US.

ps My hubby also works 12 hour shifts in a physically demanding job, but I know which holiday he'd rather daydream about as he operates his machine. That's why we book our 'big' holidays early, because we have nearly a year of looking forward to it aswell as our 2 weeks somewhere exciting!:D

You could look into having your main hol in Hawaii with a stop over in San Fran.....hopefully should just about be in your budget and you get to see your old man and your fella gets a beach bum holiday.
