Thanks, no issue with space or sharing with family so thats a plus point, I bet they don't work anyway lol! I'm putting them where I put onions and potatos last yr! I've read up about how to tie the leaves up too, hopefully will work. Cauliflower cheese here I come!0

Not doing good with my red pepper seeds so I bought the plug and grow type today from Wilko's 4 for £1.50 and have re-potted them and put them in a warm indoor spot.0

Suzie - you can bet your life that you've spent money on pepper plug plants, all your little pepper seeds will start germinating !!0

Yup!! I know will be sods law! I'll give them away or just put them in patio pots or grow bags, I just couldn't resist them what with them already having 4-6 leaves each.0 -
i made a great start in my garden today, ive dug over runner bean border again and put my canes in ready, yes early i no. ive planted my shallots, made a support for raspberries and planted them, tidied greenhouse and made little wooden signs for my veg beds which look very cut. my husband mowed the lawn and started to pot up some plants from our patio border as it is going to be taken over by veg this year hehe, must start planting my seeds, have got lots of little pots and toilet roll tubes. One day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

Great thread everyone! really interesting to see what everyone is upto I'm in the process of trying to grow my own veg for the first time this year.
I've planted some garlic in a trough which I put a layer of bubble wrap over the top, had a peek today and they are now showing shoots above the ground. Also planted some shallots and red and white onions at the same time but nothing showing yet!
I had some peppers and tomatoes growing in little boxes on the lounge window which I have seperated and re-planted today, now have 5 peppers in a long trough and have refreshed the compost in the boxes and spread out the tomatoes, only 3 as a small child picked them all out, managed to save the three. So will need to plant some more. Going to try and get my tumbling ones going I think, then pop them into hanging baskets.
Had some herbs growing too which I have replanted and added some more seeds, oregano .... only one seed germinated! and I'm sure I planted millions as they are so tiny! have put some more down now... also growing chives, basil and re planted a live thyme plant purchased from the supermarket. Have also poped in some extra seeds as well.
I had a gooseberry bush I’ve had for a few years but never got any fruit from it as it just kept getting eaten by the sawfly, It was in a pot so I thought it might like a new home in the new walled bed I created. I also got a new bush from homebase some weeks ago.. which I shamefully left by the washing machine… only to find that it has loads of new green shots with leaves on that's gone in the new bed too so that’s looking hopeful. I just need to find out the best way of protecting them from the sawfly to give them half a chance! Anyone have any ideas? I thinking of covering them with some fine mesh netting to keep the flies from being able to lay their eggs.
I also have 6 raspberry canes... but I've no idea where I'm going to put them. I soaked the roots today ready to plant but then was stumped as to where to put them so have done a temp job in some pots... really don't know what to do!
This is the garden as of today:
The bit in the foreground will be grassed over.. It looks ideal as a veg patch, but being north facing it's in total shade. Besides I wanted to get back some of the lawn that was lost to the decking. All the stuff on the left hand side is set for the tip. The black containers on the decking are the garlic and shallots/onionsTrying to make a better life.... If you need me you'll find me at the allotment.0 -
I'm so excited, I really feel like spring is upon us now. We went on a lovely walk yesterday and there's so many new signs of life out and about.
My raspberry canes are in now, all of my garlic, strawberries and onions. My early potatoes are ready to go in pots but that wil lhave to wait until next week now. I'm off on a residential week with 12 year 10 students tomorrow so the garden will be far from the forefront of my mind for a few days.
It seems everyone else is getting busy with it now, and hopefully after a week away I will be able to see a real difference in my garden when I get back.

Just popped on to say Hello, not done anything out there yet as only got rid of the last of the snow last week and now the kids are off this week for Half Term so won't be doing anything until next week but I can't wait to get started. I think the first lot of seeds to put in will be the Peppers as they take so long to germinate and then I shall put some Beans/peas in as I've been collecting Toilet Roll tubes for weeks now - shall hopefully learn how to put Photos on here too so that we can show each other how we are getting on."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Sounds like you are well ahead of me, I thought we had to wait till spring for onions? Am excited at the thought of getting them in now!! Or at least some of them.0 -
Well my winter onions have been in since october which should be ready june/july and I've just put in half of the new onion sets I got last week which should be ready september. I probably should have waited a little longer to put them in, but i'm just hoping there's no more frost and they'll be ok, and even if I am too early, there's still half left and I'll know to wait a bit longer next year!!Debt busting!
