At the end of the day there are grants available for many many things. And of there are some people foaming at the mouth thinking of their *yawn* tax money funding it then they should write to their MP.

Who knows what could happen to any of us in the future (if someone had told me 4 years ago what health problems my parents would have had I would have burst out laughing and told them to shut up :() and if we ever need assitance in some form. Of course we all hope we won't but thank christ we live in a country with a benefits system that we do.

Sermon over and no more from me :D:D

I don't care what the circumstances are!! I am saddened to discover that £120 of my £760 tax this month could go to buy someone a new(ish) washing machine! Tax payers like myself it seems, buy a washing machine for someone who is not working and then, when the need arises, go out and buy our own too. !!!!!! that, if I already own one somewhere by proxy...I'll have that one thanks!! LOL

    I'm only messing :-)

Don't really know how I ot on to this thread, by accident I think.

I will leave you all to work on this years free summer holiday, after all you must be very very tired after doing nothing for a living...apart from all that form filling and whinging about how hard done by you are..take it easy you need a break!! :-):rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Why is it that an innocent post simply asking for advice manages to get turned around to benefit bashing its ridiculous  i know the OP says he is winding people up but i am pretty sure a lot of people claiming benefits through no fault of their own wont see it that way .
It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.
  • is the fight over yet!? i hope OP gets sorted.

  • Try looking on: www.freecycle.org The operate in many areas. People, for whatever reasons, put unwanted items on their website to be collected.

Also, look in the ads in the local paper or in supermarket and newsagents.

    Good Luck
  • I still dont see the problem with hand washing ?
People did it for years and didnt complain.

Sign of the times i suppose when you cant "survive" without a washing machine.something that years ago, didnt even exist and nobody died did they?
    Having a coke with you
is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona

Damzel - my thoughts exactly! I had no washing machine when I first left home and started working 11 years ago - for 2 years, I washed everything by hand, and accepted friends' offers to use their machines now and again. My clothes were clean, and it was a cheap way of doing things.

I was earning, but most of it was swallowed up by rent, bills, running a car. I didn't feel I could afford a washing machine, so I did without.

It does mess with my head therefore that people who don't work should view one as a necessity/entitlement.

(But I accept that if you have kids or a disability, it probably is).

I did say REQUESTED, not ordered! Whether you chose to comply with his request is, as you say, entirely up to you.

And I meant boss of the forum, not my boss or yours.

I do wish that if the BOSS's minions decide to delete my (very reasonable) post they would also delete the entire conversation. It seems only fair. At the very least a PM to advise of a particular course of action would be civil.
  • I feel the OP's his post is more of frustration/desparation, than being a super skiver!

when my machine packed up, have done mainly hand-washing in the bathtub, but that makes back very sore after a while, bending over.

sheets and other larger items are best done at the laundrette, to get properly clean.

my mum never got money for a new washing machine, she was told to wash the clothes in the bath even though she is ill.
and that was with kids at home.
I use to do the same very thing when I was young and living at home. We didn't own a washing machine and I did my own clothes washing as a teenager in the bath(weekly).
