  • I love how everyone theses days expects to be given a grant from the council or thinks they should get something for free when they need something...

I too am on benefits and i dont expect stuff like that

The answer to your question is no-i lived without a washing machine for a year. And handwashed every day as i had a small baby. There is nothing wrong with the kitchen sink/bathtub -it takes longer yes but if you cant afford to buy your own then this is what needs to be done.
Took me the full year to save up for mine, and even then it was only a reconditioned one for £120 .
My adivce is check freecycle...and start saving.Until then,do what everyone else does and wash them buy hand
    Having a coke with you
is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irun, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne
or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona
  • Dear me, its dark and dingy outside this morning, I wonder if the council will pay for me to have a few days in the sun to ease my SAD.

Does anyone know of any free holidays with spending money chucked in?

Jesus, give the guy a break!

He's only asking a question, there's no need at all to get so sh!tty with him!

    Freezergeezer, have a look here : http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/008440.xml.html

Failing that, as others have said, join up to your local freecycle group (www.freecycle.org) and see if anyone is getting rid of one there.

Oh P.S. Welcome to MSE ~ don't worry, not everyone is so up themselves as it looks ;)

Well said, you can apply for a budgeting loan from the dwp to help with cost of essential items, you repay it back , it is deducted from any benefit you recieve each week, they are there to help , the advice above by shellsuit is correct too.
It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.

    Oh for crying out loud!!

Only one post on here could be described as sh1tty!! Are we reading the same thread?

You may think you are being constructive, or making a useful point, but you are making a mountain out of a mole hill! Can't you see that?

It is ONE post!! If you think it is out of order, report it, but otherwise, butt out and stop trouble making!

OP - I hope you have found the advice helpful and manage to source a washing machine. Don't worry, we aren't all out to provoke an argument!

No! I repeat; are we reading the same thread?

The OP has been told he won't get money for a washing machine, and has also been told why.

There is only one post that can be described as 'sh1tty'!

There is one other that is a bit 'sharp' but the others have all been informative.

You are causing problems where they don't exist.

Just report any posts you consider sh1tty and they will be removed. I doubt very much that would happen to any more than the one post though, as you are clearly overreacting!

Why won't he get money for a washing machine?

You don't know that, nobody does. He can apply for a grant. He might get it, he might not, but don't say he won't get money for one because that's just not true.

Where is the problem with my post, only you have a problem with it so deal with it ~ or report it.

As for overreacting ~ pot, kettle, black. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Grants are for necessities and they have clearly stated it is not a necessity.

Nobody has told them not to apply.

There is nothing in your post to report. Likewise there is nothing in my reply to the OP, or the other posts you have described as sh1tty.

Sh1tty is a strong word and not a true reflection of this thread.

I'm out of here anyway as I have made my point and have no desire to go round in circles with this.

Failing the above, could the OP sell something to pay for the washermachine? Or stop some services? Internet?
