Next problem: convert ra to mp3.
I'm sure I've had this one before and found that something I already own does it.Happy chappy0 -

Installed freeware version (earliest), cut and pasted the streaming link to it and it converted it to a ra file.
Now going to try
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/super.cfm
to convert to mp3.
I'm going to buy a 3.5mm Jack M-M lead tomorrow so I can plug the audio output back to the mic line and record live too. Seems rather a silly way of doing it I know.Happy chappy0 -

I want it in mp3 format so I can edit it in Audacity.
That freeware converter is awesome.Happy chappy0 -
Have you got the sound drivers installed correctly
http://www.ekhoury.com/2006/08/25/sigmatel-stereo-mix-support-for-dells/I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 E1505 Laptop! and as a music composer I wanted to sample some midi into wave audio. So, I needed the “Stereo Mix” / “Record What you head” / “Waveout mix”.
Too bad that Dell’s sigmatel driver does not support this feature! but I found a way to fix this issue. All you need to do is install LG’s drivers for Sigmatel… They’re working like charm here
Right idea.
I found this:
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/18589752.aspxbought this e521 pc and it came with this sigmatel high definition audio codec but it has no stereo mix feature, and i've checked every single little tab and right click i could try to enable it but its not there. I read on these topics that the driver disabled it or something, my driver is date 1/12/2007 version 6.10.0.5343 is there any way to get stereo-mix on this computer? Sorry if this question has been asked before, but most topics i search for give solutions for notebook computers but this isnt a notebook its a desktop.
http://www.togeo.com/togeo/wordpress/?p=38BIG UPDATE! - 20-Dec-2007: Dell has come to their collective senses and added the Stereo Mix into their official SigmaTel Driver set!!! I’m hopeful that this also fixes some of the “sound stutter/skip” issues some people have commented about. Here’s the link to the official driver:Happy chappy0 -
as someone has already mentioned earlier free corder toolbar does what you need it saves all streamed audio to mp3 format and its really easy to use, i have been using for a while now with no problems. and as it sits in your browser as a toolbar it quick to locate for use, only problem is if you don't mind toolbars. its been on my system for months and has not effected my browsing either way worth a look.

like i said it has already been mentioned in previous post so you may have already looked at it if this is the case then sorry.0 -
Yes, looks like the only option apart from a pci soundcard.Dell, for whatever reason, did not implement the "What you hear" or "System Mixer" option so you can record streaming audio on their Sigma Tel integrated audio. You will have to install a PCI sound card, such as the SoundBlaster Audigy SE, if you want that option.
Freecorder works really well.Happy chappy0 -
I can't find any alternative drivers for it. I've searched.
Dell Dimension E521
Sigma Tel High Definition Audio Codec
Driver date: 27/07/2006
Driver version: 5.10.0.5143
Shows as being for: SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio
There are hacks for similar drivers I've seen. Mainly based on changing the ini files.
I've not seen anything for the E521 desktop though, and someone asked specifically on a forum.
For some reason, Dell removed the "stereo mix" option from the driver software.Happy chappy0 -
Anyway, on the plus side, I've now got two viable methods of achieving what I want.
1) Freecorder toolbar, straight to mp3 from what I hear.
http://applian.com/sound-recorder/
2)
a) Convert to a ra stream via http://www.iplayerconverter.co.uk/choose_station.aspx
b) Save to ra file on computer using
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=nettransport
version 2.23.0.334
c) Convert from ra to mp3 using
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/super.cfm
So many thanks to you all.Happy chappy0
