Rerere,
Under the banking code no less:
http://www.bankingcode.org.uk/pdfdocs/BANKING%20CODE.pdf
Section 12.12
"Unless we can show that you have acted fraudulently or without reasonable care your liability for loss will be ..."
They have to prove you acted without reasonable care. Having your card stolen isn't really 'acting without reasonable care' is it? (unless of course you handed it to the theif voluntarily without duress!)

that's right, but my impression based on everything that's being said and published by the banks and apacs is (maybe wrongly) that if someone gets to know your PIN then it's your fault, unless you can prove otherwise.
Nowhere in their literature (I could not find it, but maybe it's there) it describes in details whose responsibility is what in relation to fraud where a PIN number is used.0 -
I work for a financial institution in a branch, we know about chip and sig cards and how to get them for customers who need them. Which has been precisely 1. Even the disabled customers I see have so far been supportive of chip and pin, have asked for pin numbers to be issued and have always been helped with any questions they have.
Elderley customers the same, I had an 89year old in last week who had recently opened her first current account after using a passbook style account, and wanted to use the ATM but had never done so before - so I went out with her and taught her, and helped her to understand what everything meant and to change the pin to one she would remember. On the whole, there are few people who really cant use pin based services. ATM's, computers, calculators, security doors, burglar alarms, remote controls, phones etc all have buttons and I dont think that many people really cant use any of these items or are incapable of learning how to do so.
I am suspicious of the OP as many others are who have commented on this thread and Id quite like to know why you are so against chip and pin - without using articles written by others - what exactly is it about chip and pin that you dont like?#KiamaHouse0 -
No disrespect but doesn't everyone use a PIN to access cash via the cashpoint?
So what is so different at doing the same to pay for things at the supermarket ...etc?
Signiture can be faked. Your PIN can be known and used but, difference is if you report your (C&P) card lost and or stolen it can be stopped quicker than a signiture card.
It's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other in my opinion but, I prefer C&P as a personal preference.Proudly Banking & Saving With:

The reason for asking people to share their experience is to get a fair and unbiased view about what card issuers know and are telling consumers about Chip and Signature Cards. Nothing more nothing less - good or bad.0

Q. How do you apply for a PO, 2in1 Chip & Signature card?
a. You can continue to sign, but some retailers may not let you sign.
Q. Are you sure?
A. After the 14th Feb, you will need to have a PIN, all cards will need to be Chip and PIN. Signatures won’t be accepted after that date. (This was confirmed with the call centre supervisor who is checking the NCC and Chip and PIN websites).0
