Chip & Signature cards are what we have now until Feb 14th.

As sometimes we still sign for things.

But as of Feb 14th only "disabled" people will be able to opt out of Chip&Pin and go for Chip & Signature - but not all shops will authorise this - as if there is fraud on a Chip & Signature card the shops can be fined.!.

The whole idea of I LOVE MY PIN 14th, is to stop fraud and make shopping safer. I work for a bank and know all of the different cards and whom they're available to.... but why bother.

Chip & Pin is the future, and it's what the government have brought in, so there aint nothing u can do about it!

    SparciaM,

Nice to get a reply from someowe who's 'in the know,' and works for a Bank.

Can I draw you atttention to the following (Millions Face Chip & PIN Trauma).

Maybe you'd like to tell us what your bank offers to new and current customers in the way of information on Chip & Signature?

It will be interesting to read what you say and compare that to consumer findings who are good enough to report their findings here.

If you do really work for a bank I really worry about the state of training in this country!

Would be grateful if you too could contact your card issuer and/or a random card issuers and ask about Chip & Signature Cards, then report your findings back here.

    Hi James,

I think if you want people to do things for you (which will cost them time and money on their phone bill) then I think you should explain your motivation.
I'm not having a go, you may have very good reasons, but I think people are entitled to know what this is all about.

My own personal view on disability is that those who are disabled should be the ones who expect to "go out of their way". They shouldn't expect the rest of the world to change massively for them.
I have disabled relatives and I myself wouldn't expect the rest of the world to make me a priority.
To accomodate me - yes. To make my needs mainstream and inconvience loads of other people - no.
Perhaps people who can't remeber 4 numbers are so vulnerable that they are a security risk and shouldn't have a card in the first place?

So perhaps you can explain what this is all about.

    Cheers

If you're concerned over cost, call your banks/card issuers free phone (applications number), or ask next time you pop-in to your bank.

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but I think it's all a big fuss over nothing (to sell papers maybe) and I also don't believe you will get anywhere with your campaign.

    It's here to stay.
Those who can't cope should stick to a chequebook.
We shouldn't have to subsidise them because fraud increases due to their inability to cope with 4 numbers.
It's not as if they have no alternative and will starve.

Lisyloo, thanks for your contribution. I hope you never forget your PIN, or become the victim of PIN type faud.

Surely there must be some caring moneysavers out there who would like to give a few minutes of their time to help others and find out for themselves the hurdles other come up against?

    I don't think that's very likely.
I have my own system that for security reasons I'm not willing to explain, but let's just say they are always available to me by a secure method.
or become the victim of PIN type faud.

That's possible but it's much more difficult than someone copying my signature from a card.

I am a very caring person.
I care deeply about the burden that this "vulnerable" section of society is placing on the normal hard working members and also their apparent high expectations of receiving special treatment at everyone else's expense.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I might write a few letters and articles to try and highlight it.

What about this "Mentally challenged increase costs for hardworking majority".
Do you think it's a headline grabber?
