Ryanair - One piece of hand luggage means PRECISELY that

  • This isn't anything to do with the number of items, it's to do with the liquids rule at all EU and US airports. Anything over 100ml is banned; all liquids under this limit should be in a clear plastic bag of no more than 1 litre volume. The cartons of juice should have been confiscated along with your coke, but there are exceptions for baby milk if she was asked to taste some herself first. 'Small' bottle of coke has nothing to do with it, since there are none (to my knowledge) that contain less than 100ml.

You are allowed to take empty bottles through with you, as long as you declare them at the security post first. I do this all the time: I then fill it up with water in the toilets - and always feel very MSE for it! :D

What about Duty Frees is that included in the one bag rule? If so does this mean we cannot shop in the airport?

AFAIK Ryanair only has one destination where you can get Duty Free, but from some reports even small bottles of water bought airside must be in the bag

I am talking about bottles and perfumes that you can buy in the airports and carry on to the plane, you can buy in lots of airports....will this be stopped too? I wouldn't want to get to the gate wit bags of shopping and then find I can't take them onboard. But I have seen a website called duty free on arrival where in some places you can book your orders then pick them up when you get there.

What I love is I get charged for an overweight bag ... the overweight man in front of me didn't get charged for being twice my weight! Tell me.. who is using up more fuel? :D

Simplest thing to do for small items is to put them in your pockets. Anything larger will have to be shoved into your hand luggage

No it doesn't mean that. Anything bought after the security point can be taken on the plane. It is not affected by the liquids rule as long as it's accompanied by a receipt showing where it was bought.

What I don't know is whether Ryanair allows stuff that has clearly been bought in the airport to be taken on in addition to the one piece of baggage, but I suspect the answer is no. If I were to buy anything I'd make sure it fitted in my bag just in case.

That said, it's highly unlikely you'll have a problem with 'Duty Free' purchases with Ryanair, since by far the vast majority of their flights are within the EU and therefore do not qualify you to buy stuff without paying duty.

A press release issued today clearly states that Ryanair does not allow items bought in the airport to count as an extra bag and must be placed inside the one piece of hand luggage.
