HI Rufusdog how did your daughter get on at school today? was it any better than yesterday? Well done her for being so brave and how inventive to put a note on the bag too!
Hi Sheyo and everyone else who replied. Unfortunately she had a bad day after all, wasnt the girls this time but the boys started too so when she got home I told her I'd get her a new bag next week, she has had to take a carrier bag today. It's just not worth the hassle not when its such an important time for her (she is just choosing her options at school).
We had a laugh about it all though and she is going to save the bag for using outside school where she says it wont get messed up.
Shame these kids got away with it but I can imagine what she was going through. She has never been bullied before and is quite a popular girl but not one of these trend setters, just very helpful and caring.
On a gift note, I have bought the wool to make two cardigans for my Dad for Christmas, the local shop had DK for 99p a ball so cost me £14 for two cardigans. The money was from daily click sites anyway so very MSE.

rufusd!!!2 I can't believe how horrible some kids can be we had a similar situation with my eldest daughter many years ago and one day I hand embroidered her a pair of jeans and suddenly they all wanted a pair! My daughter too was torn between wanting to please me and to fit in. Thankfully she grew up to value my sewing skills and become proud of me.
I make halloween outfits for my girls too and it's amazing how popular the mum's who can sew and knit around these events suddenly become. Sadly the creative amongst us are not viewed in the same light by some non crafters, as we view each other. I hope your daughter continues to value your talents and that she is strong enough to rise above all this and learn your skills herself for the future.

Thanks Shegrinch she is quite crafty herself and is learning to knit and use the sewing machine, all good skills she will love to have when she is older. They dont teach so many these days in school as they used to.

I know and though I have tried to teach my girls to sew over the years they have no interest, they prefer drawing and card making, but I notice this gives them an eye for colour when decorating. Still useful and still creative DD2 also is very good at putting clothes together (an eye for fashion too) still creative!!

rufusdog, she tried and had a good go, full marks to her for that. Lovely daughter you have.
Shame on the other kids though.
  • rufusdog- its dreadful what happened, some children are so awful. When I see girls going to school these days they all have "grownup" handbags its ridiculous! The college kids however are another story... anything goes!
Your daughter sounds a lovely girl and its awful that these bullies have made her upset so big hugs to her... it really did make me mad reading your post - children are so cruel and I bet the bag is lovely...
  • this is my very first post - inspired by all you wonderful people! I aim to try to be (half) as crafty as you guys over the next year. :D
  • Hey monaebrook, welcome along. We're honoured that your first post is with us. Looking forward to hearing about all your endeavours!

What a bummer. Good for her for trying though. :)

Rufusd I am so sorry your daughter has had such a tough time of it - its really good to hear she wanted to stand up to them all but such a big shame the other kids are so cruel. I too was bullied at school over something similar - mum used to knit my school cardies instead of buying them - I used to love them but not so the other kids! Lots of love to you both
