You've just answered my question... you filled in an application form and sent it off with your bank details. If you didn't read the T&Cs that's not the Student Loan Company's fault, that's yours. The application form itself holds the small print and there's a declaration on there which you will have signed, which states that all the information you have provided is correct and you agree to enter a contract with SLC. Like I say, if you didn't take the time to read it, tough luck.
No idea what you're talking about with the 'maintenence payment put through as an expense'... although I'm not sure anyone's really bothered with your story anymore!0 -
Something I'd like to know is how you are meant to prove you do not have an income if this is the case (as mentioned in the OP original posting - they wanted him to prove he didn't have an income if this was the case) - fine if you are receiving JSA (but then that is an income one could say), but if you truely are not receiving anything, how can you prove it? I guess you could show them a bank account with nothing going into it, but this doesn't prove you don't have an income - you could receive it in cash and put it under the mattress, or use another bank account. I continue to be puzzled on that one....Do not feed the trolls please.0

If, for example you're a stay at home parent being supported by your partner, you need a letter about this from your partner, if there is nothing like tax credits involved.0 -

thought this was a money saving forum not a slating forum and i was bored with your answer. a lot of ethical opinions going around here not sure why but the poor guy who started this thread is probably no further forward,. lets get back on topic,. The question was how to get out of a student loan not how to pay it!!!0 -
I would be very careful about not paying it back, a friend of mine didn't pay his back because he worked for four different people and none of the wages on their own was enough to trigger the automatic deduction for him. Then, three years down the line, they added it up and asked him for a lump sum - which, despite his protestations at it not being his fault, he had to pay.
It is your responsibility to pay it back, if you don't know how, just phone them and ask what to do.
Pixiepie - you need to send a third party support letter to show how you are being supported if you are not working or claiming benefit. Your partner/parent/person supporting you just states that they are paying the bills and signs it. No additional proof is needed unless they request it.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

It is a moneysaving site but it doesn't encourage people to behave dishonestly or to get out of their obligations.0 -

The question being posed is not an ethical one, it's a moral one. And the topic in discussion is illegal, so not something any moneysaver would recommend or endorse.
The 'poor guy' who started this thread has been given all the advice he needs - inform the SLC or whoever of the mistake on his NI number and start paying the loan back! Simple!0 -
well seeing as up till the SL came in uni education was free and paid for why do we suffer a life of economic slavery to the UK (read the small print you cant leave the uk to emigrate untill most of it is paid) for a substandard education.
personaly i feel making anyone pay for education is inherantly wriong THE FIRST TIME subsequent degrees should be done though your own financial support.0 -
I don't think you can call £3000 a life of economic slavery. It is a small contribution to the actual cost of running a degree course. Look at what the international students pay. Any other debt you get into is your own fault TBH.
I worked during my studies and came out with more in savings than that. It was nice not to have had to pay fees, but I managed not to rack up any net debt (even living in London) because I worked to cover my living expenses and worked hard - my family could not contribute and I didn't get anything other than my fees paid (in my final year I got a small grant, but I paid my brothers fees from it).
If you don't think the degree is worth it then the simple answer is don't go to university. If you think the education is sub-standard then go somewhere else or try to change it.
I feel that making people pay a token sum for education is a good thing in principle, but feel it has sadly lead to a customer culture amongst students which for me detracts from the ideal of university.
University to me was always a forum where I got the chance to learn in the way I wanted to. I learnt to be independent and I value the freedom I was given.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0
