Or the unions can set pay scales with businesses, and work with agreed timescales and tariffs, with of course some restrictions of who those companies can employ, or even put out tenders to. This is called socialism.
I guess they both fail in different ways. But as we live, and currently survive in a capitalist world I suggest we need to maintain a capitalist viewpoint in order to move forward. And that my friend means that marching around Britain causing trouble because the locals didn't get some work is not going to get any of us anywhere.
All I said in my previous post was that I am ready to fight for work - to drop rates, undercut competitors, work harder and smarter where I can - in order to feed my family. The last thing I want is some union interfering and telling me where and who I can work for, and worst of all, at what rate.0 -
When there is too much labour for the positions available then prices (wages) will fall. When there is not enough then prices (wages) will rise. This is so simple to understand. It is called capitalism.

So come on Mewbie, where does it end??? all on minimum wage?? that in itself is setting the "going rate". How are you going to feel if that happend and we don't have the money to finance the services we rely on.How you going to feel if one of your loved ones needs life saving surgery and because of cut backs they can't have it?.You can't have it both ways .0 -

Angle 1. My angle for me. I want to work where I want, subject to being able to agree terms with a business that suits me and them. I do not give a stuff about my competition - English or foreign. I want to stuff them, and deprive them of the work I want for myself. That is my law if you like, and I don't need a union anywhere near it.
Angle 2. Lefty liberal wishy washy freedom loving tree hugger. Let the Italians come and take UK jobs - because this particular issue doesn't affect me, and I think it's probably best that we live a global economy. I already do, why shouldn't they. On this subject I should probably withdraw, because I am not directly affected and my holier than thou attitude is born of being in a totally different environment.

Not Being funny folks but talking from another viewpoint.
My dad came to this country in the 50s and the problems then are the problems now. Blue collar workers expect everything for nothing.
Migrants were needed in the 50s to restore order with their great work ethics. The strikes of the 70s nearly brought this country to its knees. Once again another influx of migrant workers to restore. 80s & 90s same thing . When this recession is over it will be another influx of migrants that help to restore Britain as some will cry "I am not doing that job for that much money, when I can sit on benefits". or "I'm not moving out of my area for a job".
(by some I mean everybody that was born in this country.
So until workers/unions are willing and able to complete on the same grounds as migrants more jobs will go that way.
Sorry about the rant:o:hello:SadSadJenJen

Your second point makes no account of the self employed , we have hundreds of thousands of self employed, when cheap labour comes here it lowers wages..Thats been my whole issue with this, if it was an "even playing field" .
You are right, we are a country that is totally subject to directives from the EU commission. An appointed body, not elected.
This is where the true nature of the double speak in the laws handed down to us from this commission. The law quoted to validate the use of this labour from any EU member was delivered to us with the tag line that it was to protect our workers rights. Now the true realism of this law is reveled to protect corporations so they can use the cheapest labour from a huge labour market.
This will be just the start as job losses mount across the world.main stream media is a propaganda machine for the establishment.0 -

If their work ethic was so "great", they why wasn't there any work in their county? That's a serious question.
Wouldn't a company want to set up business in a country where there was world recognised "great work ethics"?0 -
