Really? If we look at a country like Norway they do rather well from north sea oil combined with a lower sustainable population to spread the proceeds of across. How many economic migrants are required to make the country rich?
The danger of the current trend is the country may become a grey concrete jungle, with no green-belt and a large percentage of the population living in small housing units.
The Nordic countries are quite remarkeable in their success and efficiency.
I would say they probably don't need migrant workers to "make them rich" (that's almost slavery) as they have a very efficient, trained and skilled workforce.
Did you stop to think that perhaps the reason migrants do so well in the UK is because the people who have the gumption to leave one country and go to another are very willing to work very hard so when they come to say the UK, compared to the average British worker they have a much better work ethic?
I'm afraid in this hyper-competitive world we live in, you aren't guaranteed a job. Your best bet is to do something and do it bl00dy well - be the best in your class. Even then, there are no guarantees, though you will probably do a fair bit better than Mr Jones.0 -
firstly i see it is not a level playing field, many people in the uk have grown up content to live, work, have a family in the area they where born, many have families which they choose not to uproot at 5 minutes notice having been offered a minimum wage job at the other side of the country.
many will say they should get up off the backsides and better themselves to earn more and get a better job,for many this is just not possible.
immigrant workers do not have any such constraints as family and friends, they come from another country and it is irrelivant where they work so can easily go where the work is.
Possibly the most xenophobic post I've read in a long time! :rotfl:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
NO the point is that we must NEVER let any foreigners into this country to take jobs when there are British people who are unemplyed.
Similarly there should be absoilutey NO money going to charities abroad when there are so many problems in this country to fix.
I think I may have to withdraw my earlier "Most xenophobic post" claim!! :eek:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Your I'm al right jack approach to the economy and this country's problems is very arrogant and a bit holier thanthou.
The problems caused by immigration in this country are more than just simply stopping British people getting jobs - there are myriad social and cultural problems by having so many foreigners living over here. They are also putting a huge strain on the NHS while hardly any of them actually contribute to it.
As for your comment about bringing the British people back home... I dont think I have ever heard such a stupid comment regarding immigration.
Firstly, I would doubt that British people in foreign countries would cause any social upheaval as they are welcomed into most places as good decent peple.
Secondly, the countries that have British workers cannot afford to lose those skills. Its not the same as us getting rid of a few Polish brickies.
Thridly, most people in this country are sick of imigrants and want them out.

You're right Max, but it is a bit like the Golden Globes where Kate Winslet was the main nominee...
Edited to add: no offence to Kate Winslet meant... I think you will find that there are quite a lot of migrants in Nordic countries, attracted by high wages and the tolerance of the host country. However the f r e e l o a d e r s amongst them tend to get weeded out by by the northern winters:D
Iceland had a fair sized Polish community - it would be interesting to see how many are staying on under the rule of the IMF;)0 -
I don't see anything wrong with the Polish coming over, there are a lot of fit european women and it only seems fair that we welcome our fair share
Maybe send some of the British chavs over there to even things up even more
