Your I'm al right jack approach to the economy and this country's problems is very arrogant and a bit holier thanthou.

The problems caused by immigration in this country are more than just simply stopping British people getting jobs - there are myriad social and cultural problems by having so many foreigners living over here. They are also putting a huge strain on the NHS while hardly any of them actually contribute to it.

As for your comment about bringing the British people back home... I dont think I have ever heard such a stupid comment regarding immigration.

Firstly, I would doubt that British people in foreign countries would cause any social upheaval as they are welcomed into most places as good decent peple.

Secondly, the countries that have British workers cannot afford to lose those skills. Its not the same as us getting rid of a few Polish brickies.

Thridly, most people in this country are sick of imigrants and want them out.
many of those that you abuse infact help prop the nhs and keep it on its legs. immigrant doctors are atleast 25-30% of the NHS doctors, even before i mention specialist nurses etc. as it is there is a shortage of doctors for loads of jobs which is why they give relocation expenses plus recruit abroad even now. many do phone interviews abroad because people dont want to travel without assurance of a job in the present climate. if these 25-30% doctors were forced out the nhs would collapse overnight as they just wont be able to keep the rotas going without making severe cutbacks to service provision. not to mention the many IT contractors keeping services such as BT etc going and also in the financial sector. most of them arent entitled to ANY benefits as a criteria under which the visa is issued. so they contribute to govt tax collections but cant get any except health care for which the anyway pay income tax and NI contributions. so rather than just rubbish people as not contributing, its better uyou educate and train yourself better then you wont have to crib about losing your job to an immigrant. do you think god gave you a gift of being better than another human being or do all human beings have to work to earn better than others. time you learnt the harsh truth that you succeed in life with hard work and not by trying to prevent someone else from working.

  • I will, however, point out that Ukraine is not in the EU, and as such its citizens have no right to live and work here. In fact they need a visa even to come here on holiday.

As we do to go there, unless it's changed recently.

I've learned something new (to me).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_Law

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memetics

How does one pronounce "meme", is it like "mean" but with the "n" converted to "m".

[I met Jack Dash once - for those not born at the time he was the fire brand who tried to fight against the transformation of East London into what is now "Docklands" Specifically the loss of dockers' jobs - I remember one of his "acolytes" saying "What do they expect us to do - move to some God awful place in Essex like Corringham" - here we are 40 years later with an Arab state building The London Gateway" to be Britain's biggest (dry cargo) port at Corringham.
Anyway Jack had obviously self educated himself by reading the Financial Times etc. he talked the talk but unfortunately incorrectly pronounced the technical words.]

The current batch of wild cat strikes and picketing, will be no more successful in defending local vested interests during this "restructuring" of the European & world economy.

I agree. After all, this is not a normal situation here. We're starting to enter the worst recession there's been since before most of us were born.

When some of you who think redundancy can't touch you and it does and you can't get a job because a foreign worker gets it instead, you may just change your tune.

Actually, EU citizens haven't needed a visa to visit Ukraine since 2005. They relaxed the rules when they hosted the Eurovision Song Contest and realised the benefits of having open borders and welcoming tourists was a very good thing both for their economy and the international profile of their country so they've kept them like that ever since.

Not sure if already been mentioned, but one caller to Radio 5 found it funny with all the strikers wanting contracts for British workers, at a power-station plant that is owned, setup with investment, and run by Total (French).

I still don't understand - WHY DO YOU THINK FOREIGN WORKER SHOULD GET YOUR JOB???
If you are good at what you are doing, you are requesting reasonable wage for what you are doing, why do you think your employer will go and employ foreigner?? That is complete rubbish!!

another good reason to get out of the EU for good and let Britain make decisions for the benefit of the indigineous British peoples.

And precisely which 'indigenous people' would they be? Britain is, and always has been, a nation of immigrants. The only people who could realistically be called 'indigenous' are the relatively small number of Celts who live in western Wales (the language we know as 'Welsh' was in fact 'British' and was spoken everywhere before invaders pushed it further and further back; they never quite succeeded in pushing them all into the Irish sea). As I'm sure everyone remembers from history lessons, over the years Britain has been populated by the Romans, the Vikings, the Saxons, the Normans (yes, Frenchmen!), and so on, right through to Irish settlers in the nineteenth century and immigrants from Poland after WW2, the Caribbean in the 1960s, Africa and the Indian sub-continent in the 1970s, and again with migrants from Eastern Europe in the early 2000s. At which date do you want to set the cut-off limit? Each generation has its 'invaders', and each group is eventually accepted and the hate-campaigns simply switch to the next target, rather than face up to their own problems.

Rubbish. People who come to the UK as 'economic migrants' do so in order to work. That's why they're here. As such, they pay full UK tax and NI contributions which, unless I'm very much mistaken, go to paying for facilities such as the NHS. Statistical evidence suggests that migrant workers contribute more to the system than they take from it.

Is this true? Do you have any statistical evidence to back it up? I personally would argue that the opposite is true, and suggest that those who don't like something tend to speak more loudly than those who do.

I'm not complaining about a foreign worker getting my job.I'm saying that any jobs available in todays economic climate should be given to British people.
I remember the 70s recession when redundancies happened. It's amazing how job titles changed slightly and then new staff were taken on at reduced rates as crafty employers(particularly in the private sector)got wise and cut their costs.
Do you think if foreign workers are happy to work for less than you are it's going to help the job situation.
