NO the point is that we must NEVER let any foreigners into this country to take jobs when there are British people who are unemplyed.
Similarly there should be absoilutey NO money going to charities abroad when there are so many problems in this country to fix.
I hope you are also taking all the British from around the world back into Britain then. This is NOT one way street. The opportunities within the countries are equal and a lot of people are taking these opportunities up.0 -
The foreign workers have undercut the building industry and they have also taken all the non-skilled low pay jobs with the result that the majority of the working class youth in this country cannot find work. You may think that this is a good thing and good for the economy etc but foreign builders do not always do a good job. They are often unqualified and will disappear into the sunset at the first sign of any trouble without any hope of them being traced. It is a tragedy for the working class of this country and will lead to long term unemployment and to civil unrest and higher levels of crime.
The middle classes in this country think that bringing in migrant workers is a good thing because their jobs are not yet affected but they will be eventually (its already starting to happen) and when you have to compete with Polish people etc who will do your job for less money and longer hours then maybe some of you will change your tune. The next generation economic migrants will most certainly be moving into the professions.
My son is completely unemployable. He is not academic although we tried very hard to push him into study because we knew the way things were going, but twenty or so years ago he could have got a job sweeping up in a factory or packing in a warehouse. (The other factor is the loss of our manufacturing industry) He is not a troublemaker. He is 19 and never had a job. Every night I come home to find him searching the internet for jobs. He applies for everything and sends his CV off to companies but no one is interested in him. It is heartbreaking to watch. I will get all the standard replies to this about how they will do the job better for less money etc and is he willing to wash bums and clean toilets because they are but my son and countless others are an enormous social problem for this country. They should be at work. I dont blame the foreign workers but the government for letting this happen.
this following bit is not relavant for your son but am just mentioning this for the others in this discussion. loads of occupations in the nhs (higher skilled) cant find enough local applicants forget getting enough people for interviews, people are literally struggling to fill rotas for work schedule to run especially at middlegrade doctor level in many specialities. there are literally jobs available if you walk in asking about vacancies, people have been flying in people on short term contracts in excess of 5y at hourly rates plus relocation expenses. no sane employer would do that if indeed they could actually find enough applicants suited for the job at hand. it is so bad (The vacancies) that many managers are literally begging senior people with good contacts abroad to see if they can find people willing to come for these middle grade jobs. even i have been asked to see if i can recommend people, quite a few of my friends have been asked as well to see if they can find people for these specialised jobs(payscale anywhere between 45-69k for regular work with extras easily available across the country, some people prefer not to have a regular job because they prefer to do locum jobs obnly and work say 20 days but earn much more than regular workers probably double i would guess or even more). in many big hospitals they have had to cut down services because they dont have enough people to cover the rotas and decreased the hours for those left on the rotas because they couldnt physically run the rota with so few people on it. the same in software as well there seems to be a shortage for some specialities in it especially for the experienced kind, my relative had come on a short term contract with good pay plus central london zone 1 just a stones throw from big ben - fully serviced apartment (free) etc plus food allowances etc he was being pestered to stay long term but he wasnt interested, he just came to work a while, experience a different workplace and see the world and went back at the end of his contract even if they were willing to offer bigger salary, another i know is being paid 1400£ for his rent in london apart from his 100+K basic salary+ extra allowances. so for the people with the right skills mix there are quite a few vacancies available. same with accountants and management experience, i know people who breezed into good jobs here, why would it be so unless there was a need in the economy for people with the right qualifications and experience. but all i know slog their butts off long hours, higher up the rung the more they slog even at weekends from home.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -

I've been to all three of the countries you mention, and while it's true many people live in less than appealing conditions, there are many who have a very nice set-up. Rather similar to here, in fact. The reason people come here to work is because that way they can move up the ladder quicker than they would otherwise be able to. Let's not forget either that the benefit is mutual... We may pay (via the EU) for their initial development, but who do you think benefits from that development? Apart from the people, of course (and isn't it our duty as fellow Europeans to help them in that respect anyway?), the development of Eastern Europe has benefited Western companies enormously. Tesco's recent success, for example, has largely come through opening stores in Poland and the Czech Republic, which has led to its taking on staff at its headquarters here, and enabled it to continue opening UK stores employing mostly British people. And it's well known that many companies have expanded in the last five years precisely because of the availability and success of migrant labour, employing people who pay more in tax (to fund our ever-increasing pool of cruise-going, costas-living old people) than they take out of the system. Then there's the general benefits to an enlightened global society from increased integration and the mobility that goes with it.
I could go on... but I won't. I will, however, point out that Ukraine is not in the EU, and as such its citizens have no right to live and work here. In fact they need a visa even to come here on holiday.
Brilliant post.
I have also been to those countries.
I think the poster you are replying to was watching Borat too much.. And just supposed that Poland and Czech Republic was looking similar.
Well and Ukraine as you say is not in EU (and I don't think will be any time soon)0 -

I think this post summarises the whole argument - I don't know any foreign worker that works under minimum wage. Minimum wage is given for a reason. And that is because it is enough. If you believe you are worth more, you should have qualified as something else.
Unskilled labour deserves unskilled wages. As long as British people understand this, noone will especially at these times employ foreign worker over their own.0 -
Shock, horror, British workers are finding that they need to be competitive and win within the European market to be considered for jobs & contracts.
Looks like they have been found wanting and don't like it.0 -

I do hope your not going to call me racist? or anti immigration because i'm not .....I'm asking you to explain how the "playing field is level"??
How level is it for foreign workers if they are banned from working here?
British workers are more productive than "foreign" workers that is why wages are many, many times higher here than in, say China. Refusing to employ cheaper foreign workers is no answer as it will make them and us poorer.0 -

Your I'm al right jack approach to the economy and this country's problems is very arrogant and a bit holier thanthou.
The problems caused by immigration in this country are more than just simply stopping British people getting jobs - there are myriad social and cultural problems by having so many foreigners living over here. They are also putting a huge strain on the NHS while hardly any of them actually contribute to it.
As for your comment about bringing the British people back home... I dont think I have ever heard such a stupid comment regarding immigration.
Firstly, I would doubt that British people in foreign countries would cause any social upheaval as they are welcomed into most places as good decent peple.
Secondly, the countries that have British workers cannot afford to lose those skills. Its not the same as us getting rid of a few Polish brickies.
Thridly, most people in this country are sick of imigrants and want them out.0 -

So the people who come here are unskilled workers and the British that go abroad are skilled and professional workers? What a horrendous generalisation! You ought to get your head out your butt and see the light. How do you think the NHS would survive without all those nurses and doctors from the third world.Thridly, most people in this country are sick of imigrants and want them out.
Most germans wanted all the jews exterminated about 65 years ago. Doesn't mean that the masses are right does it?
Infact your post is quite possibly the most stupid post I have ever read on an internet forum anywhere. If I were you I'd keep your fingers away from the keyboard so people don't see you for the biggot you are.0 -
