The problem is that overseeing liquidations is not enough to keep companies like this afloat:

A significant drop in the amount of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and bank lending advisory work since the credit crunch struck has hit lawyers and accountants hard.

Yep having them next door each over made them very competitive on price also was able to save a significant chunk of money last year getting Wickes to price match Empire on kitchen appliances. Wickes wouldn't match online retailers but because Empire had retailer outlet just down the road they couldn't say no.

Ultimately short term bargains from companies going bust is going to equal price hikes in the long term, uncertain times ahead :eek:

I returned a faulty tv to these guys 7 days ago and was waiting for a refund. They said they would call me Tuesday to arrange a reufnd.

Now their site says they have gone into administration.

Is there anything i can do??? Have i lost £1100 i worked my butt of for and save up for months

So worried.

I paid by visa debit card and i know i can do a charge back but their company MUST have money in the account for that to happen

I AM GUTTED AN SAD AS ANYTHING, i worked so hard and saved for so long. They should of refunded me a week before they went into administration.

Anyone know what the administrators are going to tell customers???

We just bought and paid for a dishwasher today using visa. Found out at about 9 tonight about administration so rang Barclaycard straight away. We were told to wait to see if Empire delivered. if not they would 'resolve the matter'. Does that mean we will get money back from Barclays. Damn if it hadn't been raining today we would not have ordered until weekend.

Please look at my first post which I have updated with details of the website and what the administrators say.


Have you any emails re your refund, order numbers?

I would email any info you have and ring them though I should imagine that the phone lines will be busy over the next few days.

If you do manage to get through to an employee of Empire Direct please don't take your frustrations out on them, try to be polite and concise, I know it will be difficult because your upset but these people have lost their jobs.

The manager that I spoke to today excelled himself professionally as his concern was giving me as much info as he could at that time. He had just had to send his staff home and was clearly upset but gave me as much info as possible.


I really hope you get your refund.

I called Barclays and they said i can get a charge back.

HOWEVER if i am correct this can only be done IF the company has money in the account with bank available.

I ma pretty sure that once a company has gone into liquidation, charge backs are blocked

The only people who can rest easy now are people who paid by credit card as they come with built in insurance for problems like this.

There have been a few companies that have gone into administration and people have had chargebacks.

Do i have nothing to go on based on the fact that they should of refunded a WEEK before they went into administration??
