Our local Jessops is virtually empty, not even a window display an it's been like it for a while too, hope it doesn't mean the same thing.

shaftd, I was annoyed as I'd arranged to pick up my item in store and was phoned to say it would be delivered. Really wish I'd gone to the store now but didn't think for a minute that anyone could be so devious.

  • I 'bought' a £250 TV eight days before they went bust. They said they had no stock. I just happened to look at my credit card balance before cancelling the order and they'd already debited my account! B*****s!
I immediately rang and got through to a lady working for the administrators who took all my details. I also sent my details to:
orderqueries@empiredirect.co.uk. I then phoned my bank (I paid Lloyds Mastercard) who said if I didn't hear anything after 7 days call them and get a 'disputed payment form' - not sure that's the correct name but something similar.
Good luck to all the staff and hope you can find work soon.

I sold to Jas for many years and met him on a few occasions, to me he appeared to be one of the more honest independent brown goods retailers even though his accounts were classed as a national accounts.

  • We have a Samsung TV bought from Empire Direct in Bradford 2 years ago. It conked out at Christmas so we called in for it to be repaired under the exteded 5 year warranty we bought from Empire Direct at the time of purchase. They came and took our TV away on 2 January. We have not heard anything since so phoned them on Tuesday to find out where our TV is. It took until yesterday afternoon to get through on the 01274 number, but my husband eventually managed to speak to a guy who told us the sad news and that there are a few staff that have been kept on behind the closed doors. We sympathised with the guy and his position, and he very gallantly has said he will try to find our TV. According to the records he said it had been repaired and was sitting in their warehouse doing nothing. We are just waiting to see if he calls back now. The frustrating this is, it's our TV, not Empire Direct stock, and if we can't get it back now we will have to log a claim with the administrators that will probably take weeks to resolve. If only we could call round to the warehouse with our proof of ownership and repair logs in hand and simply collect the thing it would all be ok. But that's not the way things work in this world is it? Anyone else in a similar position? By the way, there's a big 40" hole in our lounge wall waiting for the missing TV - currently watching telly on a 15" portable! Every day we are reminded of the impact of this recession, and the sad reality for staff who have lost their jobs.
