They should both work, you may as well try maxblast as it the one supplied by the manufacturer, and basmic has disappeared under a mountain of floppies.
is maxblast downloaded from the link you posted earlier?
so i'm ok to exit bios and restart?

I'd have recommended setting up the new drive as the master, old as the slave - purely because it would save changing the jumpers again later, and I'm not a big fan of CS/Cable Select.

I'm not sure about Maxblast, but why not use HDClone? Looked easy enough to use, when I got a floppy working. ;)
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.

    Downloading maxblaster now.
Once done, I can copy source to destination and then swap the cabling round, so that seagate is the master and fujitsui the slave - should that be automatically detected or do i need to go into bios again?

Thanks a lot guys - new disc installed, cloned and up and running!!

I've kept the old drive in the pc but disconnected it. I'll probably leave it as it is but if I wanted to how would I wipe it clean?

One other thing the new disc is showing a capacity of 149GB rather than 160GB?

The hard drive is listed as 160 GB. In decimal form, it is 160 GB, but that is because the hard drive manufacturers consider one GB to be 1,000,000,000 bytes. Windows displays the binary definition of 1 GB, which is 2^30 bytes (or 1,073,741,824). So by doing some simple math, you divide 160,000,000,000 bytes in the hard drive (according to the manufacturer) by 1,073,741,824 bytes according to the binary definition of a gigabyte, and you arrive at 149.012 GB, rounded to the nearest thousandth of a GB.

    Thanks Nikzgfx!

Maybe it's my imagination but the new disc certainly seems faster although a little noisier.

Thank you all once again for your advice and not least your patience - I'm very grateful!!

I did disconnect the power lead, but I'm not sure if the new one is in the original location or not - might that make a difference?
