Installing New Hard Drive

No - i wanted to keep windows on the old drive and all other programs and documents etc on the new drive0

Are you going to use just the 160gb drive - or are you going to keep Windows on the 10gb, and use the 160gb as a storage drive?
If the latter, than that's a very bad idea - the 10gb drive IS going to be slower than a properly working 160gb drive. No doubt about it, for even a second!
If I were the OP, I would reinstall the OS on the 160gb drive, set it as a master. Copy the data he needs from the old 10gb drive, set as a slave. Disconnect 10gb drive, and keep for emergency backups.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
That's going to result in a slow machine then.No - i wanted to keep windows on the old drive and all other programs and documents etc on the new drive
Consider partitioning the new drive, if you want to keep program files and windows on seperate drive letters.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
Ok - so the best way is to copy the whole lot inc windows to the new drive?
What if anything will the old drive be used for?0 -
Ive got both drives installed now - how do I transfer all the data from the old one to the new one?0

You need to use some harddrive cloning software.
Try HDClone: http://www.miray.de/products/sat.hdclone.html#freeEverybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
Seems to be geting more and more complicated - I thought it would be straightforward enough to add another hard drive to my existing one.
Out of my depth here so think i'll take it in somewhere.
Thanks for all your advice.0 -
If you want to copy the 10gb drive to the 160gb drive, the cloning software will do that - you will need to extract the IMG file to a floppy disk, startup your computer using the floppy disk, and the program will load.
I would recommend doing a disk>disk copy.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -
Sorry Basmic - thanks for all your advice, but I'm totally lost now - think I need some professional help.
I thought I could just add a new drive and transfer my data from one to another - but all this talk of masters and slaves, cloning and IMG files is way over my head.0
