Since I was unlikely to see that firend I would spill my guts to the highest bidder too, with them likely to get upto £100,000 if they win, why shouldn't I try and get some money too?Long time MSE member… just sitting in silence in the background. If someone tells me something in confidence it stays with me. The money doesn't even come into it.0

If they were a friend, no. If I hated them - probably not even then either, as I find kiss and tell or people selling stories about other people to the press to be totally beneath comtempt.0

No, even if I didn't see them anymore when they told me we were friends and I respect that0

No. But it might be fun to try and report the story of tabloids offering that sort of money...
er, who would you report it to?
I'm a journalist, though not with a tabloid, and the majority of national newspapers have a budget to offer sources for stories.
It's not unlawful, unless the person is a convicted criminal trying to profit from tales of their crimes.
You'd have to pass on some pretty juicy stuff to get £20k I would imagine.DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -
None of my friends are the kind of shallow, brainless attention-wh...."seekers" who go on Big Brother anyway
But, no. I'd never* betray a friend on such a personal and hurtful level, for any money.
(*In the PAST, yes. I've betrayed friends before, not too badly but enough to hurt their feelings for a short time. Even at that level the haunting guilt never quite goes away, and it's a self-betrayal too as it's not being true to your feelings towards them or their trust and respect of you. It's not something I'd try again.)
There's a difference in the idea that the friend hasn't been seen for a while of course, but if they're still considered a friend, no way. Still, if they're an EX-friend for some reason they're fair game
Of course, as per these dilemmas, there are grey areas. What if the friend would only be upset for a moment but would forgive you and would not be hurt in the long-term? etc. There's no 100% solid answer, but generally speaking it's a resounding NO.0 -
No, no and no again. Not even if they weren't a friend. Not for any amount of cash. And I do mean that. However I would consider doing a deal with said friend where we agree 'the story' and split the cash.0
