MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Would you sell a story on a mate for £20,000?

I'd do it! It was an old friend, who it doesn't sound like I'd have much contact with now, and I could always split the money with the person, or give some to charity or something.
How do you know that if you don't do it, the story ends up coming out anyway, or that even the friend doesn't mind the story coming out (they're obviously not shy if they're going on BB!)

IF YOU'RE SKINT......
Do I need it? Can I afford it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?
IF YOU'RE NOT SKINT......
Will I use it? Is it worth it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?0 -
as its not "your best friend who you love" I would!
I wouldn't want to be friends with someone desperate enough to go on BB so not bothered about loosing their friendship!
I'd be the "a source close to the star" tho I wouldn't want my photo on the story.
Oh and if it was The Sun i wouldn't coz I've got scouse roots0 -
I wouldn't do that to even a brief aquaintence. If they'd burned my cat alive or done something hideous to me directly in the past then maybe I'd briefly consider it. But something told to me in confidence? By a friend? Err, no.
Now ask me if I would sell the info for two million if my family was starving on the street. I think that would make a difference to most of us, quite honestly.
My sentiments exactly.0 -
Oooh... a dilemma I actually found myself in once.
An old friend of mine was on Big Brother a few series ago. She wasn't a particularly close friend but we used to go for lunch together and I knew a fair bit about her personal life, relationships, background, etc.
She made a complete tit out of herself on BB and everyone said it was all an act - the tabloids were all saying she was an actress, etc. and I knew that she was being EXACTLY the same as she always was. Totally herself.
However what I had to say about her wasn't all that positive! I also had a fair bit of dirt on her which I could've dished, but I would've felt terrible about it. I even felt bad on the one or two occasions when I discussed her on DigitalSpy.
So no... I wouldn't. I would feel ashamed for it, even though she wasn't a very close friend. I'd feel embarrassed and also worried about the repercussions. I don't like having enemies!0 -
Not even for a million. My friends are like family to me, even if I don't see some of them that often, it's still like old times when we see each other, especially around Christmas, and I value that more than money.0

I would talk to them about it. It is possible that a story like that might raise their profile, all publicity beign good publicity. If they objected I wouldn't but they might use it to sell a story of their own...
It's not something I'd do without an agreement from the party involved. Indeed I wouldn't do it to anyone without their agreement as a matter of course.
I wonder what you'd do if they asked you not to spill the beans, but then turned round and sold the same story themselves for the same amount of cash?
Just thinking aloud.....;)Val.0 -
I wouldn't betray a confidence for any sum of money whatsoever.0

No! If nothing else, because i'd hate to have it done to me.£1600 overdraft
£100 Christmas Fund0 -
I would have no qualms in spilling the beans. 20K is a lot of money and it would mean a new start for me with no debts. Especially as it is 'An old pal, who you don’t see much anymore' there must be a reason for we're not close. Also, people go on Big Brother to get 'famous' the old pal would probably appreciate a bit of free publicity:j30/7/10:j

A really hypothetical Q this one as:
* I really hope I'm not dumb enough to have friends, even those I only see once in a blue moon, who are themselves dumb enough to appear on BB.
* BB is not on my viewing schedule.
* My own values of confidence are not for sale and once you indulge in that sort of thing it tends to come back and bite you.
* Only if some really serious earth shattering lie needed correcting would I even remotely consider setting the record straight and then not for money, eg only in the interests of justice, child protection, security or similar.
