Nope. There are some things money can't buy.
  • as badgerlady if it was seriously going to hurt someone then a definite 'no way'
however, if it would only mildly embarrass them, then I have to admit I may be tempted - but would depend on my financial circumstances at the time

I will go against the tide of popular opinion, seeing as its "An old pal, who you don’t see much anymore" I would spill my guts to the highest bidder.
20k for a friendship aint a bad deal.

ah i do have a friend who was on last years big brother and even though i could of told them a few gritty stories i never did, wouldn't feel right. although def need the dosh, lol.
  • Absolutely not!! The very thought of it is abhorent.

I loathe any form of 'kiss & tell' type story and never read 'certain newspapers' because it's all they contain. By buying these rags I am condoning this behaviour and giving the paper company more money to continue buying up these stories.

Kiss & Tells ALWAYS hurt more people than those who financially benefit from them.

Yeah, I would. The only reason people go on Big Brother is to become famous. The real winners are the ones that get income from being in the gossip mags for years to come, not the actual winners of the show. By spilling the beans you will help the friend become famous.

And if you don't, someone else will.

Let's face it, you don't see them much now, and you are never likely to in the future since they will think themselves too famous to see you any more with their new found celebrity status.
  • I would sell the story and split the money between us both, everyone's a winner!!!!
  • If I could contact them first to get their permission, I'd offer 50% of the money. £20k is not worth a best friend to me though. Good friends are hard to find.

  • No way. I know that by them going on BB they are exposing themselves to public strutiny but on principle, I just wouldn't do it. The tabloid newspapers are scum (just my opinion, of course!) that survive by dirt-dishing and I wouldn't stoop that low. If it was my story and I was broke, might change my tune but no way would I sell a story about someone I called a friend, even if I didn't see them anymore. Easy one, this week!
  • I wonder if the mate realises there is solid gold in his/her life story.
Many of these "revelations" are not journalist scoops, they have been carefully & profitably placed by the likes of Max Clifford.

This is another example of "no problems only opportunities".
I think you owe it to your friend to talk it through and point out that the story could easily come out anyway - so why not retain the money and agree an editorial treatment that is sympathetic to the participants.

You risk rival media trying to rubbish your story and portray the story in in its worst light rather than its best.
Hell this is the price we pay for freedom. The real bad guys are the sheeple who pay to read this gossip and vicariously get their thrills from someone else's life.

If everyone is adult, and no innocent children are involved, then face this "wicked"
secret - it will all blow over in a week or so, having come out of the closet & withered in the sunshine.
