Renault Scenic sports elise 1.6. X reg 2000 and 44k miles on clock. Asking £3995

Audi A6 1.8T SE W reg 2000 and 82k miles on clock. Asking £4250

Which would you buy and if so how much would you pay for each.

I think Renault is over priced by about £600 the Audi - not so sure.

Out of those two? The Audi. It won't fall apart around you.

You wanna bet? I had an Audi A3 and it was a dog, always in the workshop with silly faults, I was on first name terms with the Audi breakdown technicians. I never found a good dealer for the servicing in 4 years, nowhere near as good as my previous Vauxhall dealer. It didn't affect me because it was a company car but parts are expensive on Audis, I had a new exhaust back box and it was over £150 plus VAT also insurance might be high as they tend to be in high groups.

OK it's less likely to fall apart around you ;)

Renault have had a terrible press recently. In addition to the blown turbos, electrical gremlins, crap gearboxes and coil failures leading to breakdowns, the number of people I know personally who have had a Renault and had the cambelt snap trashing the engine is frightening. Now I know that this can be put down to bad maintenance, but why so many Renaults and no other makes?

Renault is near the top of my bargepole list I'm afraid.

Audi, while not always perfect, are usually pretty reliable.

My advice is to get something Japanese/German derived (inc Skoda/Seat/Korean), or Ford.

Its a pity that Renaults are so unreliable as they are actually very nice cars to drive, look nice and are usually the safest in the class. But as reliability is very important, you're better off with the Audi ... even though the mileage is higher. 82k on a german car is hardly anything.

Mate ... most people just wanna get from A - B ... forwards as opposed to sideways. ;)

trouble is majority of cars are front wheel drive. bmw and mercs are few of the brands that favour rear wheel drive
