If that's the case, then they're going to have to refuse payment by Electron card soon because they seem to be saying, on their website, that they're doing the customer a favour!...

If you believe everything MOL states then Ryanair have been doing Europe a huge favour since conception. Some of it may in fact be true !

I wouldn't read too much into the careful choice of wording used by Ryanair to try and convince the public of just how much we can't do without them. That phrase has been on their site for rather a long time now, years ! They have quite a simple choice, accept the card in it's current form without fees or don't accept it in the future. I'm sure whichever option they chose, it will be for the benefit of Ryanair first and foremost.

You are clearly not an economist. Ryanair have one of the strongest business models in the airline industry. Financially speaking, they are a lot more secure than BA.

If you are talking pure financials, I wouldn't disagree with you. Nevertheless the nature of the beast is what kind of passengers you attract/rely upon. BA has the type of passengers who will fly regardless. Ryanair's tend more towards the opportunistic passenger, the ones who decide on a whim. Any percentage fall of passengers flying overall will hit Ryanair more than it will BA, and those that get put off flying because of a crash are more likely to be Ryanair passengers than BA.

As being German (in Scotland for nearly 5 years) you can imagine I use Ryanair very often as for me going over or someone coming to see me.

I am so happy I kept my first UK account with my first Bank Card which has been an Electron.

I think I have saved roughly £150-200 over the last year, only by using a basic bank card :rotfl:

HEADS UP FOR BOOKINGS: You can save even more if you book the luggage later. At first you need to book the flight with online check-in. After that you can change the booking and add the luggage WITHOUT Online check. You basicly save £10 as the Airport checkin comes with the luggage.

Unless they found out and changed it, but might be worth a try.
  • Booked Ryanair super cheap flight and just realised they charged me £19 debit card fee for two passenger, got the flights for £20 for two so can't complain. Will def be getting electron visa a.s.a.p.

Ditto to that, just booked a flight for 2 to Bournemouth, £19 charge on top of the flights for using any card apart from Electron.

Cant grumble though, still super cheap :j
  • I'm going to add to this thread because of what I found out yesterday. I wasn't aware of the £28.50 fee that was made for using my debit card. At no point did I see an alert like the one pictured above. The first I knew of the extra fee was when I printed out my itinerary. I had checked and checked and checked all the charges as they were being displayed to me as I am aware of these budget airlines hiking up the price. What actually happened (I worked this out by going back and entering a dummy transaction up to the point of payment) was that the total to pay changed AFTER I had checked it, as I was entering the debit card details.

And yes, the amount to pay was only just above the credit card form but I can only compare it to a magicians slight of hand, why would you go back and re-check what you have already checked?

Anyway, we were so annoyed about this extra fee that we have phoned trading standards who have given us a case number so that we can attempt to reclaim our £28.50 as there was not sufficient notice of the extra charge, that it was too 'concealed'. If Ryanair don't refund us within 14 days then Trading Standards will take up the case on our behalf.

The thing is I wouldn't have minded paying more for the flights, I mean no-one can expect to pay £1 to fly to Spain, what I object to is being taken for a mug. Come on Michael O'Leary, just put up your prices and be honest about what you are charging yur customers.

There is sufficient notice, I noticed when I made my bookings to Ireland recently. Read the small print!

Wonder if you can pay by card if/when they start charging to use the toilet?

  • When you put a flight into your "basket" there is a link along the top of the booking form entitled For a full list of Ryan Air fees, please click here.

Once you have selected your flights underneath the total due you'll find another where it says Excluding handling fee if applicable. A pop box appears telling you exactly what the handling fees are.

We opened an account with Halifax to get an electron card. We would fly Ryanair and Easyjet a lot over to football matches, so we have saved a good bit this year already.
