Nigel, your unconditional defence of Ryanair is quite amusing, I wonder if you and Mr O'Leary are drinking pals ;)

The fact is that the OFT (Office of Fair Trading) are well aware of this issue and have already made efforts to force them to be more transparent in their pricing :

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/761531/Ryanair-'fobbing-off'-OFT,-claims-Abta.html

It will only be a matter of time for the consumer pressure to build to the extent that they act further. Personally I think that this charging structure will have to change eventually, but we shall see ;)

I have no particular like or dislike of Ryanair.
I am well aware of the fact that the OFT have made efforts to force Ryanair to be more tranparent with their pricing.
My point is that, looking at their website, I see a table of fees and charges. All are listed nothing is hidden as you repeatedly say.
I see nothing misleading about their pricing structure.

But unless you go through the terms and conditions, you are not made aware of this until you have been quoted for the flight. It's hardly up front is it?

You do not need to go through the T+Cs.
As I said before the charges and fees are one click away from the home page.

The vast majority of people booking will not pay the advertised fare.

That's irrelevant. The advertised fare IS easily and readily available for people who are prepared to jump through the right hoops to get it. There's nothing misleading or dishonest about it since, as many people have pointed out here, at no stage does the company hide the additional fees. And Ryanair is by no means alone: easyjet, wizzair, and even BA charge 'extra' card fees.
  • have you lot never heard of www.entropay.com - takes 3 minutes to apply - its free - no bank credit checks - just top up with the cost of your ryanair flights and hey presto when checking out with ryanair type in your virtual electron card details and thats all you pay - no surcharges

no point having halifax account etc if you dont want/need them

It's not free but will save money.
    From their FAQs

"There are no monthly or annual fees with an EntroPay Virtual Card. Our only fee is the 4.95% charge on each amount loaded onto an EntroPay Virtual Card. There are no hidden fees.
Return funds from EntroPay Account to personal credit/debit card: we charge a GBP3/USD6 fee as outlined in our Terms and Conditions.
There is no minimum withdrawal amount. Your balance must however be sufficient to cover the GBP3/USD6 withdrawal fee."

What?? I never said that the prices are hidden. You are confusing me with TFD.

My point all along is that the charges are not proportionate to the cost of processing that payment method. I have stated that it is possible they could be challenged on this. You disagree. Simple as that.

Apologies for confusing you with TFD.
We do disagree. There is no requirement in consumer contract law for the price charged for a service or product to be proportionate to the cost of providing that service or product.

Don't for a second compare Ryanair's card charges with the other airlines above! It is clear to anyone with half a brain what Ryanair's game is here and frankly I'm amazed at how stubbornly some people here are supporting them in it! Sure, you can play the game and beat the system by getting an electron card (which I have now applied for with the Halifax account) but that doesn't change the fact that they are a dishonest company that is grossly overcharging people for a 'card handling fee', it just means that you aren't one of the people being taken advantage of.

I suppose you're the same type of people who wouldn't care if an aged neighbour had been cheated of their life savings by an unscrupulous salesman. You'd probably just gloat safe in the knowledge that you're too smart to be taken in by such scams.

Now that's unfair. Unscrupulous salesman are by definition deceitful and dishonest, and in that situation I would do everything I could to help said neighbour recoup whatever losses he/she had sustained. However, this bears no relation at all to the matter at hand: you'll remember that my argument was in fact that I personally think Ryanair is upfront, honest and indeed fair in the way it charges fees. You may well disagee with my interpretation and opinion of such policies, and of course you have every right to do so, but to throw accusations around in that way is neither nice nor justified.

So why do you think they don't charge a handling fee on electron cards?
