Hi all. Knee seems to be better, only done very slow jogging on it and lots of walking though. Football tonight is the acid test! If all is well I may see becky (and some tohers?) at Wimbledon parkrun on Saturday! I'm out for work team drinks the night before though (starting about 4pm!), so that might influence whether I go or not, depending on how messy it gets!
Good luck with the running everyone!Running Club targets 20105KM - 21:00 21:55 (59.19%)10KM - 44:00 --:-- (0%)Half-Marathon - 1:45:00 HIT! 1:43:08 (57.84%)Marathon - 3:45:00 --:-- (0%)0 -
Happy Wednesday everyone (or Hump Day, as it was called on another site)
.
I've not been here in quite a while but I'm still running although my passion for Angel Cake might be reducing the benefits (I blame my friend as she reintroduced it to me back in February ).
Anyway, I've only completed one race so far and that was a 10K at the beginning of May. I was due to do my first half marathon at Richmond Park on the 10th but I got there too late. Totally my fault, so I decided I'd do a return run to RP as 'compensation'.
My first attempt ended when I had to stop at 11.5 miles due to low sugar/dehydration (numpty) but I was successful last Sunday and it took me 2:08 to do 13.29 miles, so I can cross that off my list. I just need to find another half, plus a marathon to complete my running challenge for this year.
I hope everyone's running is going well and any injuries are minor :TThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Hi Poor - good to see you!

Hi all, sorry I've not been updating on my training, but I'm a bit pants at posting
Anyway, my half marathon was on Sunday, I was aiming for a time of 2 hours, and completed it in 2 hours 17 seconds!!Very pleased with myself as I only started running in January and this was my first ever race.
This is me at the 13 mile marker, with just the 0.1 to go
Now got to decide what to do next! I've entered the ballot for the London Marathon 2010, but won't know til October if I'm in or not.

:j Well done :j
I think you should do another one in September/October while you wait to hear about next year's LMThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Good going, Raphael!
Not a bad achievement in 5 months - its always nice to put a marker down to see how your training has really gone.:D
I'd be a little cautious about getting carried away with automatically jumping to a marathon. Despite what you hear, running a marathon without proper preparation hurts and hurts bad!
The best approach is to get your body used to racing at shorter distances - 10K, 10 Miles and 1/2 marathon. It would be prudent to do 20+ races at shorter distances before tackling a marathon, whilst at the same time building up your long training runs to the region of 20 miles.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j
Blackpool Marathon 11/4/2010 (Target=2:59:59) (6:52/mile)
Abingdon Marathon 17/10/2010, (Target=2:48:57) (6:27/mile)

Yeah I knowI wasn't planning on doing nothing until the Marathon, I've got just under a year to train for that so will look around for something shorter to aim for in the mean time
another half would be good.
I'm having this week off (while the chaffing heals) then going to see what I can plan.

Hi everyone. :hello: Gosh it's been busy on here; I've only just managed to catch up on all the posts. There's been good news and bad news for me since I was on here last week.
Friday's run was my 12 miler and the good news is that I completed it - 02:06:15 (10:29/mile) - the bad news is I found it really tough. I kept thinking I'd find my legs but never did and just kept grinding out the miles until I'd finished. I recovered pretty quickly afterwards and put my poor performance down to the fact that I was tired. For the last 2-3 weeks I've had disturbed sleep due to a tickly cough - I ignored it because I was ok during the day but I was feeling verrrrry tired.
I was away at the weekend and crept out early on Sunday morning to explore a new route - unfortunately I didn't even manage to run 4 miles. I got to 2.67 miles in 00:28:42 (10:45/mile) before I had to stop and walk back. I was just sooooo short of breath - this got worse Sunday/Monday to the point that even walking made me breathless.
I went to the Doc's yesterday and I've got an upper respiratory virus so am under instruction to rest for a few days.
The Doc made me laugh - he said he likes treating athletes although they're a pain in the @ss as they think resting means a 4 mile run instead a 10 miler. When I pointed out that I was hardly an athlete his response was 'we've ascertained that you ran over 20 miles last week, that's more than 95% of the population so you're an athlete'. :rotfl::rotfl:
