Chris - Rich is our resident running guru, and he is racing this morning, but when he gets back he will be happy to tell you what he thinks you should do! In readiness for that, any info on what your current level of fitness is, how far you can currently go without stopping, etc would be helpful.

    Welcome aboard!

At the minute i can go about 2k before needing to walk for a while, i managed to do a 10k last year in 1hr 7 mins, but have done minimal training since, i have been going to the gym since the start of the year, so slowly building my fitness up,

    thanks

I nearly got caught out with this new thread guys.

Today was my first run for six weeks as I have been fighting off the flu and vomiting bugs. For the first time in my life I took the advice of my friends and resisted the urge to run until I was completely up to it.

I only did three miles or so and it was tough. I am sitting here feeling good though. It is good to be back on the road and now starting to look forward to the Edinburgh Marathon again. Seems like I have a lot to do to reach my goals for it, but as long as I dont have any more sickness or injury should be very achievable.

welcome back cnoelj, and I hope you are feeling much better now - sounds awful!

Edinburgh is not until May is it? So plenty of time to get back into the swing of things! It will soon feel as though you have never had a break at all!

    Yes you are right!

when I first applied for Edinburgh I was thinking I had the luxury of a long build up. However There is something dangerous about long build ups though and starting from this point is probably about right.

Raphael - that looks a good start to me - You have 4 months or so to build up to half marathon level - it is certainly more than achievable, and getting those first few jogs under your belt is the start of something fab!

    Thanks hypno!
I'm off to the gym tonight, not sure if I'll do interval training or just plain ol' straight running on the treadmill. I'm edging more towards the straight running as I do love it :) then off for a nice swim and a relax in the steam room :D

sallyx - 2 hours sleep is not good! Why not have a rest day today and go out tomorrow? you don't want to risk injury.

My blisters are still too painful to do anything......I even took painkillers before going to bed! They don't seem to be infected, but they certainly aren't healed yet, and I have learned my lesson......I won't be running until they are right, now.

Someone has literally just run past my window, on their way home from their run -it is really frustrating knowing that I should be out there doing 12 miles or so!!!!!

raphael - good luck at the gym....whatever you end up doing is all exercise so can't be wrong!

Hey Hypno..I keep saying there is still time...!

Only thing is that there will come a time in a couple of weeks where there isn't enough time. I should be thanking my lucky stars, my brothers FIL is also doing FLM and he has got shin splints and been out of action for 5 weeks...he's going up the wall!

That's because it is only 14 weeks before I am supposed to be able to run 26 miles  :rotfl:
